I far as I have seen no one makes a 285/70/17 with a load C rating, I just check Nitto site and all of their 285/70/17 are all load E rating.

    I believe tiresize.com has a LT285/70/17 in load C. It's a M/T rather than an A/T tire though.

If you find that tire please let me know. I want to stay with a load C tire but I want 275/70/17. But every where I look the Nitto Trail Grappler is a mud terrain tire, load E, and weighs about 68 pounds, so no where near 44 pounds.

Without the Nitto Trail Grappler there's still other option at 275/75/70 load C options but not many. Cooper AT3 and Kumho AT51 both have 275/70/17 options in load range C. The Nitto is 285/70/17 in load range C. I'll get the link.

BUT when you click on the link for the tire and then look at the specs it switches to a different diameter and load range E...

Anyone running the cooper AT3 275/70/17 on stock sport TRD rims. I'm putting In my 5100 3" lift this weekend and I can't wait to get the tires. And any vendors or stores you guys recommend for wheels? thanks

I would love to see what these tires look like also on a 17 inch rim and lift.

The larger 275/70/17 Cooper AT3 is so appealing to me, I just don't know how much bigger they will look compared to the KO2 265/70/17 which is the tire I'd get if it was the biggest option for a C load. Need to know what the coopers will look like with an all black wheel. Looking at the NV Methods to pair with whatever tire I chose.

I am in the exact same situation as you... I do not want anything smaller than a 275, but worried about the weight with 285 and load E. I have a friend that is running i think Toyo At2 285, I believe in a load P, but that may be too little sidewall for my comfort. Let me know what you end up choosing. Seriously wish KO2 was load C at 275

Yeah, I want the KO2 in load C 265/70/17 but with my toytec boss lift don't want them to be to small. The Cooper AT3 in load C 275 is a good option just don't know if it will be aggressive enough.

    275/70/17 - 32.15"
    265/70/17 - 31.60"

Difference is 0.550" or 1/2". Do you think it would make a difference in the look? If it's 285 or above I'd say yes.
Hope my maths is correct :)

Haha, that's what as well. Tacomas are pretty low powered, and I couldn't imagine what anchor draggers one would be with bigger tires. Sure, you can regear, and then lose your high speed driveability. Duratrac makes a 265/65/17 in a SL, which might be a choice when the stock Bridgestones are dead.

Sorry I'm late. Coopers AT/3 load C 265/70 17. No lift. Quiet on highway, good grip on gravel. about 5% more fuel consumption than original tires. Love them so far, but I did not have any other off road tires on my Taco so I can't compare.
And yes Taco needs a bath.

In order of personal preference I would go d, e, and last resort c. I wore some c rated bfg at ko's out in 20k miles. Nothing but disapointment.

I put 285/75/16 load e duratracs on and despite added weight I'm happy, it's a stout tire.
