If you go with the cross membr delete option I believe you’ll have to run their new RockRunner skid. You’ll basically be cutting off the lower ~3” of your crossmember. I contacted C4 after the initial announcement of the bumper and they confirm my current skid would not be compatible if I opted for the crossmember delete.

There aren’t a ton of details yet. Mostly just instagram posts with details emerging in the comments section.

I may be naive on this topic but I just can't find a reason why you would cut into the cross member. Considering most bumpers in the market don't remotely require the cutting of anything.

Cutting off the lower portion of the cross member will increase clearance and approach angles. This line of armor is being aimed and designed for maximum clearance for rock crawling.

I am not a Toyota engineer so I don’t at all intend to imply that cutting the crossmember is no big deal. I personally don’t intend to go with that option. Comparative to other current market offerings, this bumper simply looks the best to my eyes.

Correct. Cross member delete will be raising your cross member for added clearance. You will either have to purchase C4’s skid to run with the bumper or make your own. I’m sure details will come soon with what’s needed.

Here is what the crossmember delete buys you. It typically involves welding in a new one.

IMG_2159.jpgAn idea I’ve had for retaining the fogs is tapping a hole in this section and using a small light from Baja Designs or similar brands that make really slim light options.(It would protect the light from damage while on the trail and I think it would fill the empty triangular space well)

If you look at any of the Tacomas built for desert or prerunning type stuff, they’ve been cutting off lower crossmembers forever. My lower crossmember is cut off as well.

What doesn’t make sense to me is a bumper that requires cutting a crossmember, and then still mates up to a factory attachment point skid.

It’s interesting, there’s been this movement of people getting back to minimalist bumpers.

Minimalist makes more sense honestly, lighter weight + better clearance.

I think they look a lot better tbh. In the GX community a ton of people just straight chop the front valence and rock that.
