I think you are right about the issues that will plague this model. Its packing new everything and a lot of tech, which is just asking for trouble. However, I really dont think this is meant to compete with $200k+ Italian supercars. If it was, they wouldn't have priced it at $60k. It kind of looks like one, but I think that's where the comparisons should stop. These things are going to sell like hotcakes and are already generating a lot of hype...if it wasn't, we wouldn't be discussing it on a Tacoma forum.

I understand but the reason for the $200k tag on the cars built like this are because of the engineering and quality they must be built with to make them work. I have no doubt they will sell, at least until they are exposed as a total POS that is in the shop more often than not. This is legitimately a Fiero except this time they were dumb enough to roll it out under the name of an american icon in which it shares nothing. Time will tell but it will not be received well within the community I am a part of being corvette guys. I have had a 58, 96 LT4 and now the C6 and what I am seeing here is not a corvette.

I don't mind getting my butt kicked by a true super car considering I am invested less than 30K in a car that sold for $58K that I picked up with 13,000 on the odometer. What I enjoy is killing everything that is not in the 200K bracket for less than 30 grand. I do not see this new car Chevrolet is offering doing any of that much better. They can make and sell the damn thing, in my opinion just name it something else. And if GM were not trying to compete with the Italian super cars this would not roll out looking like one.

I love my tacoma, was waiting for the redesign of the 4runner to come out before I pull the trigger but no luck at all or even spy photos of it. I knew the tacoma would look modern for years to come since they do not redesign too often. Always knew the Tacoma would be a great choice to have even with the transmission issues that can be annoying at the times, I love the feedback of the community in how many people either love it or hate the corvette but people can feel the same way when they took away the 4.0 engine from us and the little quirks that our generation has. I still look at my drive way and love the look of the tacoma

No manual option for the new C8 is a joke.

C5 FRC's are pretty slick; that would be my choice if I were to choose a GM product.

I don't see the problems you see. The car is going to outperform the previous versions which already did well against the super cars.

The car will flop? How so? More performance, similar ease to live with, I just don't see why there won't be appeal. It'll sell.

    Lol. This is just silly.

Chevrolet (GM) has proven that they are unable to design a successful mid/rear engine car. The quality control and electronics are not good enough to make a car like this work reliably. No doubt this will sell, the Fiero sold but went down in history as a total POS.

Furthermore, is shares nothing with any of the previous generations thus it is not a Corvette. If Toyota built a semi-truck and put the Tacoma badge on it that would no longer be a mid-size pickup. That is in some fashion what GM is doing here. Also, with the price point you will be getting the equivalent of a Kia in components used by the competition so GM can keep the Vette price point. People like me who have owned several Corvettes in several generations will never see this as a Vette and that will hurt the sales. Yes people looking to get into a blue collar Ferrari will buy it but they will regret that decision because they will not be able to keep them on the road. Time will tell.

Nah, I do not have the extra cash for a toy and need a practical vehicle. These vets and similar camaro's seem like a compensation vehicle :crapstorm:

Stupid comparison about the semi thought. But anyways think like Fararri. Ferrari makes/ has made many different drive trains for different vehicles and they are still considered a Fararri. Whether its front or rear drive etc. Corvette is simply trying to create a new type of branding so that "Corvette" is synonymous with performance sports cars. Not just the old RWD that no one is buying except baby boomers. Not hard to understand. Also here's Toyotas semi.

Our opinions differ. That is not going to change. I have followed these cars my entire life and owned several. I feel it is a mistake. You do not, you do you. One of our points will be proven in time, until then it is banter. Good day.

It honestly doesn't matter about the "glory days" or how someone feels. Pretty obvious it's about trying to keep a dying brand "Corvette" relevant in today's performance car market. They aren't selling. No one under 60 wants a yellow Corvette or any newer generation one at that.

Yes, overall design of an Acura NSX with the ass of the current Camaro and the interior technology of a 2005 Honda civic. It's a fucking revelation!

Keeping it relevant by dropping the manual. Their aging demographic doesn't have the knees anymore for a clutch.

Exactly. It's clear they are desperately trying to bring a well known name back into the current gen of performance. The manual shouldn't be a dead give away as all manufacturers are heading towards this. But the mid engine, and no MT is a sure way to rustle all the jimmies of the die hard Vet lovers. Corvette is desperate and trying hard with this new model. It definitely looks more like a super car.
