Seriously? In Ca? That's awesome if true. Makes sense, but would you have any written evidence that I can carry with me?
    Thanks for bringing this up.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
As much as the humidity, boring flat land and hurricanes are concerned, it's apparently dirt cheap to have a truck in Texas. I paid $68 for my 1/2 Ton Silverado, and probably a little less next year for this truck. We don't pay a portion of the turck in taxes either, not sure what that's about. We do have to register trailers now, but that cost me $50 for a year for my homebuilt trailer, so I was happy to legal up.

    Sales tax 6.25% on vehicles.

It's written in your license plate.
Commercial vehicles plates are arranged differently than a passenger vehicle plate.

As long as you're following the rules for the loading zone, you're legal. If it says 15 minutes, it's 15 minutes - but you are a commercial vehicle, and yellow zones are for commercial vehicle use.

When I go into town for work I use them, the money saved by not throwing 50 cents in a parking meter every time I stop is way more than what the extra fees cost me.

Sure, just remember you can't use them as a regular parking spot, but if you're conducting business or not occupying the space longer than posted limits allow then you're good. I always move for larger trucks, since I'm only using the spot for work and for convenience.

Here's a link explaining zones and restrictions of use (for LA).

Does "conducting business" include going into RR real quick for a Pliny? The parking around there sucks, I am sure there is a yellow zone near there.

Parking does suck there, but no.

I guess technically you could try it, but the downtown SR meter maids are serious dicks and they will skull fuck you if given the chance.

Im sure I would run over the time limit anyway. It takes like 20 minutes just to get the beer in the first place

This is terrific, can come in very handy. I'm in BC, Canada and my tacoma is registered as commercial as well.

    Curious.
I am picking up personalized plates tomorrow. Is my truck still considered commercial?

Yeah, but your plate won't make it obvious like a standard plate does.

Do you guys pay the 400 even if you transfer a tag? In Florida it's 300 for a new registration but you can transfer your old one for 5 bucks or so

    $400!?

It costs $60 for a two year registration in MA. Doesn't matter if it's a pickup or a Smart car.

Commercial is slightly higher, but not dramatically. You only need those plates if it's owned by a company or you have any sort of lettering on the vehicle advertising a business.

@Crom has a write up in his build page about exactly the steps to take to avoid this fee. Side bonus: most useful build page on TW.

It's still kind of worthless since you can only stay a max of 30 minutes. And it is for loading and unloading only, not a quick run to the store or whatnot. I don't see any benefit, it seems like it is purely another way for CA to shaft the population.

I use it for work, like I said.

It isn't for store runs, or running into a Starbucks.

Have fun driving on dirt roads. I hear Texas doesn't have enough money to repair all their roads so you guys are going to start dropping gravel and stop maintaining short streets.

On the other had, you did buy a truck so you're OK. Too bad for all those Honda rakers that drive an inch of the pavement.
