CA DMV Refused to Renew Registration on 2016 V6 TRD

Just had my registration renewal declined by the CA DMV because of a pending "Emissions" recall on my 2016 V6 TRD. Made an appointment at my dealer and it turns out the Cam Sensor recall is considered an emissions device. Trouble is there are no sensors available anywhere, are on backorder, and the service writer said it could be months before they are available. Great. My tags will be forced to expire. Ever try calling the DMV to ask a question? May as well send smoke signals. Went to AAA and they couldn't do anything without a cert of completion of the repair. This situation sucks. "Oh What a Feeling . . . . "

Dude I've got nothing for you.
If the truck was still in warranty i would say give it to them take the rental and have them fix it. Go to dmv and put in a non-op for now.
And make toyota pay late fee if there is any.

That sucks OP. Toyota should have to provide you something to drive until the repair is done it seems like.

 

F@&$ DMV! Just got a letter from California FTB. Saying I owe X amount for unpaid registration fees.

Been in Texas since March! Sent them the damn paper they mailed me for showing proof of registration here. Wtf?

 

Call around. You might have to drive a bit, but there’s gotta be a dealership around with the part. I had a local dealership tell me 1-2 month backorder, and they never even called me. Same day called a different dealership, told me they had plenty in stock.

It’s toyota’s fault for making a crappy sensor and OP is to blame as well for not following up on a legit recall. California is glad you’re gone

I would call Toyota Corp. and get this on the record with them, in other words, don't just wait on the dealer if your registration is expired and technically can't drive your truck.

I am in a similar situation with the CPS. I scheduled the recall work and when I went to the dealer to get it done, I waited an hour and the service writer came out to tell me they didn't have the part, but to come back during the week and they would take care of it asap.

I called a few days later, and was told the part is on "national back order" and the dealer would call when the part was available.

Still waiting but will call tomorrow for an update. Will also call another dealer, thanks @mateo_roberto for the tip.

 

Carry proof with you of your pending order incase you get pulled over and see if the explination gets you a warning.

 

You could pay the registration first so there arent any late fees. Take care of the recall later.

 

Will they honor it if you change it yourself? As long as you show a receipt? I bought mine and changed it. Takes 5 minutes. @mateo_roberto pretty sure Cali is mad I'm gone. One less person paying taxes.

I can believe Kali is that psycho. I had a 2014 FJC, I was contacted by Yota wanting me to let them take my FJC to Ann Arbor and run a couple hour Kali emission test on it because CARB wanted them to. For that, they would refill the tank and give me $100 or so and put around 150 or so miles on it. I live in Michigan and have been here for over 30 years..............

I'd throw a bushel of Burger King whoppers down a fat chicks throat before I'd do ANYTHING for CARB.

CA cracking down on the smoggers! VA or NOVA doing the same, holding your shit hostage until you get it fixed! Just think of all those VW owners who won’t give up their smoggers for the fix. VA will give you an extension as a one time exception. We also have mobile smog readers too that function as a help or smog hell. Big brother has your by the short hair as they want that federal $$$.

 

Can you get a temporary permit? Up here in OR you can get a paper temp permit that’s good for a few months.

I’m sure you would have to pay for it but it would be better than a ticket.

 

This is another reason why Cali is the worst or close to it state to live in

 

Maybe try firing off an email to corporate to see if the part you need magically shows up in a few days.
