Will the cab mount chop accommodate a set of 285-75-R16s? Anyone have an opinion on these tires?

Also, do most Tacoma owners who have opted for larger tires get a spare in the same size and mount it in the bed? I’d like to avoid that since it’s the 5.5’ bed. If I kept the original spare under the bed and had to use it, how long would it take for it to do permanent damage to the wear of the other tires in the event of a flat?

I think the answer to your first question is yes. And the answer to your second is no. I think you can fit a 33 in the spare area with some slight modification.

Also, I like that you're on the phone and looking at tires

"Yeah, yeah, that's fine, oh look, 285 geolanders"

In addition to the CMC you will also have to heat and re-mold the plastic wheel liners. Are you lifted? Is this a mall crawler or do you actually plan to go offroad?

If you plan on running 285s with stock wheels start looking at spacers as they will most likely rub the UCA.

edit - 255/85-16 will be an easier to fit (33") option

Might need an aftermarket UCA. Will for sure clear with an aftermarket UCA and CMC.

No lift = no need for aftermarket UCAs. Also, aftermarket UCAs move the wheel further backwards (while increasing caster) which makes bigger tires harder to fit.

I will be putting a lift on it too. I was looking at RC 3” but was told by everyone not to. The shop I spoke to about the mount chop also said not to go with RC. I’m going to pick his brain when I take it in for the mount chop. They advise ordering through them for warranty purposes but I suspect it is so they can mark up the parts.

All five of my wheels and tires are the same and the spare doesn’t fit well under the bed. I mounted it to the front bed rail and molle panel but it’s resting on the bed mat so it won’t break the rail. I have a six foot bed so space is not an issue.

Go offroad and flex your suspension...you are almost guaranteed to rub the cab mount and/or pinch weld.

Well you have a very unique truck then. Almost everyone with 285s rubs when stuffed if no CMC.

I discovered why his tires don’t rub. Look at the image of his truck, it’s skewed long way, making the wheel well longer from front to back. Mystery solved.

What wheels/offset did you go with. I am running 285/75R16 KO2s on 16x8 -25mm SCS Stealth 6 Wheels. I have the oem UCA but preemptively got a CMC/pinch weld hammered before i put the wheels/tires on. Plenty of space with the CMC but had to push back the fender liner in the front. Should also mention I am on a Eibach Stage 1 lift with about 2in of lift in the front.
