I don't know where you live, but have you seen what a safety inspection consists of?

Lights, blinkers, wipers.... OK good to go.

@Rob Daman to your defense I enjoy your channel. It is what it is and we're in a similar boat with our goals and families.

That other one is too cringey for me. "LAST LINE OF DEFENSE!" just feels super poseur to me. As a vet it feels like people are just doing military LARP lol.

I think sometimes, especially when he is sensitive about something someone said in the comments, he can come across as a very thin skinned stereotypical Millenial. That may add to the cringe factor for some.

That said, he does appear to spend a good amount of time actually working with/testing the stuff he talks about. And whatever else one may think of his lifestyle, I think his commitment to it is genuine. I am not a vet but I am very concerned with prepping, so I do appreciate any channel that adds something useful to that conversation, and I think he does.

Besides, in a recent video he mentioned having just turned 34. That's 13 trips around the sun after I turned 34. If I am going to be fair about it I would probably be embarassed from the age 47 standpoint by some of the stuff I said and did back when I was 34. But then I have to remember that in 13 more years the 60 year old me will probably be embarassed by aspects of the 47 year old me.

Cab Mount relocate is not needed for 35s. I never touch mine, any rubbing I have is usually the top portion of the pinchweld at full stuff.

You have a regular cab mount chop though, correct?

Not in Canada, usually it is fully comprehensive. I have failed inspections due to rock chips in the window.

I forgot, rock chips in the windshield can fail you. What else do they look at?

YMMV depending on tire brand/offset/etc. my Falken 35’s rub even on my aggressive CMC. If your going to go through all the work to cut/chop/weld. Might as well just do a relocation and have extra clearance. I do agree the pinch weld is the limiting factor in this equation.

I feel like the entire front end of the 3rd gen Tacoma is just too sensitive to any suspension lift above 2.5 inch and tires bigger than 33s. I do wish we can have the clearance of a Jeep. They can stuff 35s on stock suspension and 37 with only a 2 inch lift that's available from Mopar. I'm honestly jealous of that.

I recently switched to 35’s. Here is what my wheel wells look like. I have 4.4* & 3.4* positive castor up front, -25 offset wheels and 315/75/16 MT’s which are larger than many other “315’s”.

I only kiss my already aggressively trimmed CMC when my tire is at full lock and it’s not a bad rub but it is definitely a rub nonetheless. Despite all of the hammering/trimming I have done, the only thing that would eliminate rubbing would be a cab mount relocation.

I don’t think any “NEAR TRUE 35” would NOT rub without a Cab mount relocation. I don’t see it possible. Maybe if you have some KO2s or other tame all terrain & JUST the right offset of wheel you MIGHT be ok, but I truly believe every single 35” tire would rub at some degree, a non relocated cab mount. I don’t mean on road, i mean in any scenario. At stuff, full lock, etc.

A cab mount relocation is a caveat just like a CMC.

If you do one - you are now safer to use the full range of motion of your large tires ON and OFF road in any scenario.
But you may also be prone to some ugly scenarios where a large tire can enter the cab and turn you into Lieutenant Dan.

If you don’t do one - you will probably be fine until you have to full lock articulate your suspension off road to avoid rolling or tipping etc. and on - road, you may bite into the Cab mount during an evasive maneuver and cause a bounce back the other direction resulting in a big bad day. However, you probably shouldn’t be near-full locking your steering wheel at hwy speeds anyway. I have been trying to train myself to just slam on the brakes for any emergency scenario at hwy speeds and I Certainly don’t drive my tacoma faster than HWY posted speeds either. I actually follow those slow speed limits across turns on HWY’s

Every mod we do to these trucks can/does affect safety. I’m personally trying to figure out if a relocation is right for me or if I’m “safer” without one.

Add a bedrack & RTT above the top of the truck - you’ve affected sage hwy handling.

Add a lift and oversized tires - ditto

Add a steel bumper - ditto (sometimes they help keep you safe, sometimes they don’t deflect damage and transmit the forces to your body instead)

    Now

PICTURE YOURSELF driving an older domestic pickup... guess what, it handles worse, brakes poorer & has less safety features than any 2005 or newer tacoma. Are you safer in a modified modern tacoma than in an older, stock domestic pickup? I don’t know.
