Sorry if this comes off like a commercial but...

Had a whining noise coming from the underside of the 2011 Taco and was certain it was the transmission oil pump. Steeling myself for a massive repair bill, I placed a call to Cabe Toyota and spoke with Phil in service. I explained the issue and arranged to drop the truck by after leaving work early.

I explained that I found out about them on the Tacoma World forums and that they were staffed in part by enthusiasts like me. I explained how I needed the truck for an offroad event and that it would be really helpful to hear any bad news early on so that I could make other arrangements. I needed to go to Sacramento over the weekend and asked that they call me so that I could get a start on the repairs.

True to his word, Phil called me and gave me great news. Initially they thought it was the alternator but after looking at the problem a bit deeper the tech realized it was a defective idler pulley and bearing. A much cheaper fix to be sure!

So thankful I was for an honest evaluation of the problem I spent a bit more on the rig and had them take care of a number of preventive maintenance things, including the front brakes (that Phil told me didn't "really" need to be taken care of despite having 71K on the original hardware).

Got back from my event late Sunday afternoon; absolutely zero problems with my Taco.

Thanks Phil and Cabe Toyota, you are the place I will go for service on my truck from now on.

Thanks for sharing! So far I go to them for parts, but I might consider having them do a future repair after hearing your story.
