He didn’t force me, I let him persuade me which is my fault. On the warranty side though, the warranty was written by them, if it designates exchange for a broken /failed item with no other written other stipulations, that’s on them, honor the warranty as written.
Shop as you all please, I was venting when I posted this. As I stated in original post, it all worked out in the end. I honestly pity the next consumer who walks in wanting to exchange a Cabelas brand product without the receipt.

Agreed, he had no ill intentions and was supporting his employers brand.

I'll be honest, I really like the Cabela's in-house made candied cashews and pecans. I get some every time I go.

Logic spoken once again. And this can be applied to basically any retailer or company, not just Cabela’s. So it’s pretty simple:

    1. Buy a product. If it’s important enough to you, keep the receipt.
    2. If said product breaks and is covered by a generous warranty or return policy such as Cabela’s, bring that receipt in.
    3. If you don’t have said receipt, don’t expect one of the largest outdoor retailers or any retailer to honor the warranty or return policy. They are a business, not a charity.
    4. If you are dissatisfied with the reality of an otherwise standard practice, vent about it on TW.

That’s what it boils down to. Sucks but maybe he’ll have better luck at a ma and pa store. Regardless, keep receipts.

They honored the receipt not the warranty. The rod was 18 months old. The warranty was a lifetime warranty no receipt required for return. The ‘warranty’ as it read was not honored

Never been a fan of any Cabela's branded gear tbh - I like the store and selection but stick to "name brand" products and away from anything with their branding

As it’s been known many outdoor retailer have recently changed their warranty and return policies because of cases exactly like this and because of people who abuse the policy. REI had to do the same thing because of policy abusers. At the end of the day companies like REI and Cabela’s will uphold a policy to protect their assets and revenue rather than what a customer believes to be right, and they are rightfully so for doing that. The reality in this situation is that a Ma and Pa shop isn’t likely going to manufacture and sell their own products. If they do, awesome. This also means the product you buy from them will likely be name brand product with a similar or worse warranty or exchange policy, meaning you won’t be making any headway. Also a Ma and Pa store will be more like to protect their assets because of their revenue compared to a large retailer, meaning in this situation, there probably wouldn’t be much they could do for you either. Rodmakers have since cut back on service as well because of policy abusers. Noticing a trend here? It revolves around customers, what they believe they’re entitled too, and the immorality of some.

I bought a Magpul stock for my AR from them and accidentally purchased milspec instead of commercial buffer tube size. Since it's a 40 minute drive I called and made sure they had the commercial stock on the shelf so I could swap them out. The guy at the gun counter suggested I bring my lower assembly to ensure fitment. So I walked in with just my lower assembly. They called a security team member to come put a trigger lock on my lower and escort me to the gun counter. I understand procedure but by the looks on the front entry employees faces you would have thought I walked in with a whole rifle loaded and at ready. Mild irritation at the least though. So we get back to the gun counter and look at the shelf. No commercial tube size offerings. So he looks it up in their system and finds one in inventory. But its for an online order that hasn't been processed yet, and after looking at it.....it wasnt a magpul and looked pretty much identical to my factory DPMS stock. And they can only order what they stock, not just anything from Magpul. So in summary, they didnt sell what I needed/wanted and could not order it either. I didnt bring my receipt like a dummy because I thought I was just swapping them out. It took a 30 minutes argument with the manager on duty to get my money back. And then he proceeded to tell me that he didnt appreciate bringing a firearm into the store without it being in a case. Had a deer in the headlights look when I informed him that technically it wasnt a firearm and that I had also been in their store the whole time with a loaded .40 handgun on my hip.

I'm a CCW holder and proud supporter of the 2nd Amendment but you should never tell a stranger about your concealed firearm, especially in a pseudo threatening way. Literally providing ammo for Libs to take our CCW rights away.

I wasn't threatening. Informing someone of possession isn't a threat.

Legally, it is a firearm. Technically it is a firearm component.

I would say that you most certainly were. In what scenario is it appropriate to tell the guy who is scolding you for bringing in your AR lower w/o a case that you in fact have a hidden, loaded gun on you. I mean come on man. That concealed weapon is there to protect your life, its certainly not there to prove how big your dick is to the store manager.

He never asked me to leave. I informed him their policy needed work because it was preventing nothing and doing nothing except for irritating a customer.

Btw, to answer your question. Yes. I could have legally walked in there with my AR on a sling. It's probably not the best idea, but it's legal.

I almost exclusively buy TFO rods now, their warranty is fantastic no matter how you broke the rod. If they find that it's due to a defect, replacement is free, if you snapped it (which has been my case several times) it only cost $25 and shipping to them to have a new rod mailed back to me. The costs go up for conventional tackle rods because they can't replace just the section you broke, like on a fly rod, but it beats buying a new rod everytime you mess one up.
