Went to go turn on the truck yesterday and heard a horrible noise coming from behind the glove box. Went ahead and pulled out the blower and noticed that it had cracked and the inside was completely stripped. Was curious if anyone else had experienced this on the 16-17 models. I don't even want to bother calling the dealership since I'm technically out of the warranty period and figured I would just replace it myself.

It seems to be a pretty common issue

Do you need to know, or care?
I would call anyway. If there is a Service Bulletin out there, they will probably fix it for free, considering the age of the truck.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Out of warranty? Isn't the warranty 3yr 36,000mi? Call the dealer and check but I think you need to be under warranty for a TSB? I'd just source parts (CamelBack Toyota?) and DIY it.

I had a slight noise behind the glove box and the dealer replaced the blower. This was about 3 months ago @ 9K miles. Everything ok so far.

From what my dealer told me when mine did this, you have to replace the whole blower motor assembly, not just the squirrel cage. Mine was covered under the factory warranty (3yr/36k) so it was free. Otherwise their parts department quoted me $150. I'm sure you could shop around and find it cheaper.

Common problem with the 3rd gens. Good luck finding an OEM replacement!

Yup, the full assembly. Mine was replaced as soon as I heard something. My wife thought I was hearing things.

Toyota needs to fix the problem not just keep replacing it. A defroster not working will not pass inspection. Safety issue ?

Mine was running at max for most of the summer with 110+ degree days. But the fact that they're press fitting a plastic squirrel cage onto a metal shaft seems like the main culprit to me. Too much stress and thermal cycling for the plastic to take.

Looks like I have a bad blower. I turned on the truck today and heard rattling coming from the passenger side dash. Time to visit the dealer.
