I removed those annoying stickers on the sun visor.
That makes sense. In 30 years of driving, I've only had 1 other vehicle with a cabin air filter, and I'm just not familiar enough with modern vehicles to know if they're necessary to protect the modern components, or if they're strictly for passenger comfort.

it's $10 every few years. the phrase "stepping over dollars to save nickles" comes to mind. you'll save more per year just utilizing gasbuddy to find the cheapest spots to fill up the tank.

this reminds me of my grandfather, the penny-pincher-extraordinaire. he insisted on "saving gas" by shutting off his car every time he moved up in line at the emissions testing facility. by the time he got to the front of the line, his engine was cold, and the test failed to complete, meaning he had to leave, drive around for at least 50 miles, then come back. a whole 4 hour ordeal and a half a tank of gas, all because he couldn't leave the motor running for 20 minutes in a line.

I'm not arguing. I'm simply asking a question, looking for advice from people who are more knowledgeable about modern vehicles than I am. For some reason, grown men are getting their feelings hurt about a question.

It's your choice, remove it if you want. I do some HVAC work and can tell you stories about how bad filters look, and how bad coils look when filters are removed. On home systems, this can lead to major problems. Don't work on car/truck systems so can offer no first hand advice. I can say I've cleared all kinds of crap out of the filter on my '16 Tacoma. I like having the windows down also, but me personally I would not remove the filter and let the crap it catches go who knows where.

And, not all vehicles have cabin air filters, my 2013 Chevrolet Express van doesn't have one. Have no idea how this vehicle catches the stuff the Tacoma filter does. Been driving for 10 years/185k miles and no issues yet.

Cause you asked a question and been given solid advice from people that have more experience than you. Yet, you still feel that the component makes no sense, too you.
Do Not Remove the Cabin Filter... it will do more harm than good. I have owned 2 Toyota's. DON'T REMOVE THAT FILTER. DIRTY OR NOT, IT PROTECTS SOMETHING IMPORTANT. :annoyed:
If you want to clean the filter, then soak it in a 25% muratic acid and 75% water for a few hours. Rinse off completely and let dry, then reinstall it. :fistbump:
Been driving cars and heavy equipment and I am a pool guy now. Filters are extremely important, even if they are dirty. Air and water in this day and age need to be filtered regardless of environmental conditions. Machines were not made like when we were young.:fistbump: So, take the advice or don't. Btw I am not ass/butt hurt over your answers/rebuttal. Just know you asked a question and you want to keep questioning what we are saying.

I have done this for the last 40 something years. Once a month clean all air filters, home and auto. Replace as needed.

Today is not Friday. Time to move onto relevant threads, like oil change intervals.

I'm not questioning what you're saying. In fact, I acknowledged earlier in the thread that it makes sense to keep the filter. I was simply further explaining why I asked the question in the first place.

Your comment wasn't butt-hurt, but some of the others were. I should have clarified. It seems to be a common theme in this forum lately. A lot of people angry over nothing. But I guess the whole world is like that these days...
