I tried putting a washer on 'after' the dampener but that didn't work. It fell right off. Atleast on mine....

After you put the dampener on - take a screw (doesn't need to be a big one) and screw it into the plastic inbetween the prongs. All the screw needs to do, is spread the plastic prongs apart to prevent the dampener from coming off.

If you need to take the dampener off again, you can easily disconnect it from the other end.

Anyone reading this post B 4 they do the mod should learn by our mistake and be very careful when they remove the damper. I didn't know about it when I did the mod and almost ruined the prong thing.

Don't bother trying to be careful..... The prongs are garbage.
I've removed my glove box probably 3X to clean my cabin filter & install an ipod unit. The prongs just don't pop back into its original position. It's like the plastic is too soft.

With all do respect I'm sure U R correct but my concern would B breaking off one of the tabs on the prong and then there is nothing to put a screw in between so I still think it would pay 2 B careful.

Great topic. I know its old but getting the oil changed tomorrow. My brother takes his Rav to Toyota for an oil change and they always change the cabin air filter. They charge about $50 for this! I'll be doing this myself instead of paying that much.

I didn't even know I had an in cabin filter on my 07 double cab!

I was shocked to see all of the crap in the filter when I pulled it out.

It is soaking in the kitchen sink now - before Mama makes it home!

    Thanks

thanks for the DIY Chris. I turned on my air conditioning this morning and it literally blew a cloud of dust out of the vents and into my face. LOL. I figured its time to clean it, after only 6,000 miles!

Naaa.... you'd end up paying $50 for one of those.

These $12 (paper) filters can be cleaned easily. I have two of them that I clean. One in the truck and the other one in the garage ready to swap out. I change 'em about once a year.

There are so many cabin air filter threads that I can't find the link but I made one from a filter from Home Depot or Lowes. It wasn't cheap but can be washed and should last for the life of the truck. If I had a link for $3.50 I probably would have used that but I didn't, so water under the bridge. The one I made is really nice, I'll say that.
