I've had two filters that I've switched back-n-forth.

The one I removed was washed atleast once or twice. This is probably the 2nd or 3rd time I've washed it. It started falling apart on the edges. The pleats started ripping off the side. I don't use any force other than the kitchen sink sprayer & no soap.

You can wash these things, but eventually....they will break down. Next year I'll probably be looking to buy 2 new ones.

I know this is an old thread but thought I'd add I've washed mine about 4 times, factory filter. A few of the pleats on the sides fell off today and so it's in the garage being glued back together.

If you saw all the dirty and nasty shit the filter catches you might think otherwise.

I pull my '85 GT SBF Mustang that makes an honest 745 HP on 93 octane pump gas that runs 9.40's at 142mph on ALL motor, no NO2, turbo's or blowers and weighs over 3100#,with my '08 double cab LWB TRD Sport to the tracks all the SE US. This FORD engine has never been apart in 4 years and several hundred 1/4 and 1/8 mile runs, not to mention over 1500 miles of street driving.
Chris, just because your ignorant opinion of FORD is just that, I challenge you to show another small block domestic or yipponese engine making this kind of power on pump gas.
Ready, set, ........hmmm, thats what I thought, YOU CAN'T

Has anyone tried to retrofit a K&N air filter to fit into as a cabin air filter? The process of reusing the stock paper cabin filter sounds similar aside from the re-oiling part. just a thought.

I have been washing mine with K&N Power Kleen cleaner. Since 2007 on my Taco 2007. Now on my 2017 Off Road. First off the filter is not paper. Some kind of fiberglass mixture. I wash off the filter with the hose and get as much off as I can. Spraying from the cleaner side, the side that goes down. Tap out the excess water and spray on both sides with the K&N Kleener, be sure to get into the creases. I probably give it an over soaking. But it works for me. Let sit for ten to fifteen minutes in the shade. Do not let it dry out. Wash out with the hose. Be through! I do take the extra time to pick out any stubborn particles that are left in the creases. These are OEM filters not after market! I have not bought a $26 filter in over ten years!!! Looks as new! Really. P.S. You can buy the Kleener by its self, no need to buy the oil as it is NOT needed and would not recommend it for this process. This is not a K&N filter mod!
