No it does not. It’s only activated by the stalk (parking lights) or when auto lights kicks on.

 

So amber backlight stays ON when the white is selected?

Correct, only an amber backlight. The S8 bars are not dual color, that is the OnX6 I believe that has that functionality.

 

Backlights are coupled for the two lightbars, and tapped to the tail fuse.

 

So to recap, you were wanting to have a dual switch to have one bar ON or both ON, correct? Backlight is taken care of.

If you get a correctly functioning dual switch, its just one wire from each relay coil pin (one wire on the switch B) and a add a fuse to an ign source. Dual wire from your tail fuse you already use for the amber back light circuit. It would make the lights available only after the tails are selected. All other wires taped off.

Can you please explain why this would work and my original configuration doesn't? Just so I can learn from my lack of understanding on the subject.

 

The 3 wires from the harness has fused juice, ground and the return fuse juice to the relay coil, this last one energizes the coil to close the contacts and allow higher power flow to the LED bar.
The shortcut way these harness come is to always have power, not a good thing if something went wrong. Like you have now with the switch LED's always ON no matter if switch is pressed or not. (could be wire input wrong or bad pcb trace to switch board.)
So what the drawing shows is a fused source that's ON at ignition/acc and also after vehicle off if the light stalk is selected after all is off. This provides the necessary fused power to close the relay coil.

 

Battery-fuse-relay pin 30, shared connection to white LED switch and Amber backlight, White LED select switch requires ground for switch illumination, switch sends fused power to relay coil.
Amber switch send fuse power to Bar backlights.
Grounds shared.
