Cable speedo to electric speedo conversion

Vehicle: 95 4x4 V6 3.4 5 speed manual with cable driven speedo with no tachometer

I swapped my transfer case to an Atlas 4 and the factory speedo cable keeps failing, so I am looking to convert to an electric speedo.

Just brainstorming here, but I am thinking of the possibility of installing a later model cluster with a tach and an electric speedo, and installing a VSS onto the transfer case and attempting to wire it into the "new" factory electric speedo. I am not sure it is possible though because of the fact that these setups from the factory run through the computer, which obviously mine doesn't do now. From what I have seen, the 3-wire VSS contains a ground, a power, and the feed to the computer/speedo. Anyone here think this is a possibility?

If this doesn't work, my only other option would be aftermarket gauges which is expensive and potentially more difficult to wire in through the factory wiring and computer. (I have seen it successfully done once, but there is no in-depth details on it, and the member is no longer active on the forum it was posted on)
