"Has anyone actually had their Taco on a dyno with the K&N cold air intake? I put one on my '13 V6 and can feel a little pick up and increased noise (I like the noise) at 3k+ RPM plus a couple extra MPG, but not overly amazing. I put the OEM air box back on with the K&N air filter and got similar results without the noise. Kind of wondering if it's actually worth the price of the intake versus just the air filter."

"The cold-air intakes regardless of brand typically do two things: 1. space out the MAF sensor 2. delete the resonator in the OEM airbox so it's louder. The cold-air intakes do flow more, but you need a turbo or supercharger to take advantage of it."

Saw these two posts in the what did you do to your Tacoma today thread and it buzzed my curiosity. Has anyone installed a cai after your supercharger was installed? Any noticeable gains in throttle response or fuel mileage?

I installed a cold air intake after having the supercharger for 40k miles. As far as performance goes, nothing at all noticable, maybe if i stuck it on the dyno i would probably see like 3-5 hp, which you obviously cannot feel. Throttle response is the same as well. The only noticable difference is more noise, which i was going for.

If you read around you will see a lot of other threads on this exact subject. They speak the truth . Changing your filter will net you zero performance and just cost you money. Not to be rude but you probably didnt gain anything other than noise since you are NA. That "pickup" you felt was the preception based on the noise.

For me at elevation (5,300' or so above sea level) it made throttle response more crisp. Not sure if there's a difference here versus those at sea-level but I tried stock, K&N FPK & back then finally an aFe Pro Dry CAI and I'm staying with it. Cleaned up the engine bay and, for me anyway, added a pony or two using the seat-of-the-pants dyno mostly in the way of throttle response. I've got a few other mods too (exhaust, smaller pulley, TRD oil filler cap, etc.) so maybe that's also a difference from the experience others have reported. I fully expected to feel no difference and got mine for the sound and look and was delightfully surprised to get a slight improvement in drive-ability.

yeah, I haven't installed a cai yet and I have a supercharger now. just pasted the two comments from other threads as a reference. I installed a k&n filtercharger kit on my 2010 and noticed a little better throttle response and about 2 mpg better. I wasn't a big fan of the k&n though because of the install and design. I'm getting about 19-20 mpg now depending on how much highway I drive which is great, but 21-22 would be better! not sure if it's $350+ better though!
