    Hey guys....

    2 parts here....

    1. So I am going to be changing out old air filter for a new one... does the brand really matter? no name brand vs. big name brand? does it really change MPGs/HP/sound of exhaust?

    2. Also, does a CAI (such as AFE, Volant, TRD, etc) really have that much a difference versus the deck plate mod? whether you think it is ghetto or not, I don't care. I want to know about results...

    What are your thoughts?

I'm installing a drop in k&n and doing the deck plate mod today. I may be wrong but I think the mod will only work on a 1gen airbox.

The Deckplate Mod can be done on 1st gens AND the 2.7L. It is superior to a short-ram cold air intake in that it does the exact same thing, for a 1/32 of the price, and it is re-sealable if need be.

The HP gains are minimal and not very noticeable, if at all.

However, selecting a good drop-in, and removing the charcoal air filter are beneficial. Many people on this site are partial to the AFE Pro Dry S, as it is a washable non-oiled drop in as opposed to it's more expensive counterpart, the K&N (what I've always used) which is an oiled filter.

are you speaking of just the air filter itself, or the entire CAI unit?
