I've got a 2000 Tacoma, 5spd, 4x4 with 109k miles. Just picked it up last year in December. Threw a P0420 last week. I understand it can be caused by other issues besides the CATS or o2 sensors. My original plan before this happened was deleting the 2nd CAT and installing a URD o2 simulator. Would this cure any future P0420's providing my o2 sensors, fuel pressure , Maf, clean throttle body, etc... is all good? I see if I buy any future o2 sensors it has to be the specific ones for Cali. Also would like to install a high flow primary CAT and a flow master exhaust. Just curious with the non OEM high flow CAT, o2 simulator and aftermarket exhaust that I wouldn't continue to throw codes and if the ECU wouldn't freak out since it's not up to Cali standards. I live in Montana so no emission testing here. Pisses me off this is a California rig with 2 cats. No point of it here so it's gonna be one dead cat real soon.

Yeah I'd imagine as long as both o2 sensors front and rear work shouldn't matter if no cats. However high flow magnaflows aren't too expensive and I'd be legal with the Feds.

yes, so long as everything else is working fine, this will solve your issue up to the point that the wiring is still in good condition. most likely.

problem with not correcting the issue in cali to begin with is that when you go to get your truck smogged, they WILL look and make sure everything is in their proper place and working correctly. either that or during the test they will see that the o2 readings and their exhaust testing equipment aren't matching and investigate if not call the authorities.

so even if you do go with this, youll have to buy enough parts to get a working setup going for when you want to smog. plus buy all those accessories and replace the components when you want to run without a cat. youre better off just finding and repairing the issue. and honestly, its probably something little like an exhaust leak.

pretty much since you don't have emission. that what I did when I live in Minnesota, took out all the cats and installed o2 simulators (turbo ftw).

Works for me. However I will still have one cat a high flow type to be legal fed wise. Like the sound of them flow master 40's for a muffler. Just glad I don't live in California and have to deal with emissions
