Just paid $341. Had been thinking about getting sequentially numbered black plates, but at an extra $40/year, I think I'll hold off for the time being.

There are a few things that go into the calculation. Tax rates, actual price, etc. That might explain the differences.

give it time, and they'll add a 'whats your salary?' field to tack on an extra 'kalifornia success' tax

They'll probably do a weight tax before that to be honest. All those fees/tax and the roads are still garbage.

Commercial vehicles are taxed on weight. That includes pickup trucks...

Yup. All trucks and vans without seats are classified commercial and a weight fee is added. I believe my renewal is about $500.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
I was recently blessed with the amazing honor of paying my first renewal on my '21 TRD OR DCLB 4x4 of $658. Sent it in by mail on 7/18 and it was due 7/31 because that was the absolute ONLY option they gave me. I received a Personal plate a few months ago but the renewal was for the original plate at $618. They took well over a month to present the check to the bank and then they sent me an "Incomplete Renewal" notice with a balance of $40 for the personal plate and offered no envelope for the return of the bill. I wrote the check and mailed it back the same day I received it. It's close to 2 months now since it all started and I still have not received the registration & sticker.

    California's DMV....

    ...the epitome of efficiency! o_O
