This is like Seattle costs. Mine was nearly $600 on my old Golf R. We moved to unincorporated territory (read as rural) and it is a cool $85. Funny thing is we are only 35-40mins from downtown.

I always giggle when you bash California and use 4 letter words when your tag line is to show respect. :D

Also I'm thinking you paid a lot more than I did for your truck too.

Don’t forget if you have a camper shell in CA you can exchange your commercial plates and reduce your registration fee.

Fees are based on the value of the truck not the price. Ask me how I know? Someone gave me a trailer for free and I had to pay taxes and registration on the value, not the price. Many times it is the same number, not in your example.

when u register dmv they ask value say 0, gift or "i dont know" it avoid taxes. private party sales ive always put gift or buying ask the seller if theyre cool w it. if your in business of buying/selling yeah theyll catch on but 1 private party transaction doubt its worth the time. check the CA registration calc.

I did that, it didn’t work for me. The DMV went so far as telling me that their computer won’t let them move forward with a “zero” as an input.

My access cab was $303 this year, are double cabs more because of the value?

    I wouldn’t ask Tacomaworld.

I’d use this new vehicle registration fee calculator that the DMV has online.

I looked into this. It was a $20 difference. I rather pay the $20 and use the yellow curbs, especially in DTLA.

I think you’re confusing two fee’s which are actually rolled into one. When you buy a new or used vehicle part of the registration fee to transfer the title into your name is the sales tax, which again is based on the County where you live. The actual fee for the tags (what you have to pay each year) is based on vehicle value and isn’t based on what you actually paid for the vehicle and again, which County you live in. When you do a title transfer these two fee’s are combined, unless the tags are current on the vehicle, in which case you’d only have to pay a transfer fee and sales tax on the amount you actually paid.

Gift and transfers amongst family members are a whole other thing.
