Might be getting too old for this.
Not even half a percentage point according to that flyer. Looks like most of it goes to the state/local "government."

$125 for two years down here in Floribama.

That flyer is only for taxes collected via DMV fees.

I’m not limiting it to DMV fees. Many people rely on California’s (and other states) $ for subsidies.

To add to this, only the more populated counties do emissions testing. My county does not, so all I need is the annual inspection. Even then someone will take a junker to Joe's Uncle Brother's Sticker Slap Service and get a sticker (not that I've ever done that... :spy:). If you have a CEL on it will not pass in emissions counties no matter what it is. Then the car gets sold to someone in my county to live out the rest of its days. I've noticed where I live it's where cars from Pittsburgh come to die

I think Maryland has the $500 exemption to pass it. If you spend that or more to try and get it to pass they'll get you through. It's all a buncha BS to me.

I grew up in California. The army showed me the world and I’m never going back.

My dad won’t leave though. He believes it has the best hunting because blaze orange isn’t required, lmao

Yup, that’s where I’m from and where my vehicles live. $20 a year/vehicle with no emissions testing whatsoever.

Connecticut still has hunting, but you have to pay a fee for each type of animal, or bird you want to kill....btw, blaze orange is required here.

The problem isn’t the proposed distribution of fees, it’s that California routinely reprograms those fees elsewhere, generally to things taxpayers wouldn’t be likely to support. Then, the state comes back later and says the DMV fund is insolvent and asks for registration fees to be raised so the world doesn’t collapse. It’s a cycle the state repeats with many revenue areas. Fuel taxes are probably the worst.
Notice how these funds are stated as fees? That’s because labeling them as “fees” rather than “taxes” allows the state greater latitude to monkey around without oversight or accountability to voters.
California is a revenue gathering machine. A very aggressive machine. Even when the state sits on a huge surplus, it still moves to raise taxes and fees. Money is often spent on on things many residents wouldn’t support while things like road improvements, water, and electric infrastructure lag behind. If our fuel taxes alone were used as promised, we would have the best roads in the country.

Yeah thats so true Addams county next to York doesn't have emissions, Probably Franklin county doesn't either. I didn't have to deal with it for over a decade when I had that diesel Jeep, well other than getting pulled over by the local police a few times for not having an emissions sticker on it. those stops usually ended with a little explanation to the officer but once I got a 10 day fixit warning.

I know the cars after 1996 or something have OBDII and they have to check the computers emissions diagnostics for current and recently cleared codes in addition to the CEL not being on. And since we are talking about this my Tacoma is at the local mechanic shop around the corner from work getting its annual inspection done today. This will be the second time they had it, I had them do the 1st Pa new car inspection last year since the Maryland dealer I got it from wasn't Pa certified.

Pa is the same. you need all kinds of things and extra tags for different game and separate fishing licenses and launch permits if you want to use some lakes in state parks even for my 10ft kayak.

What he really is talking about is the federal taxes on fuel. CA consumes a lot of fuel so they generate a lot of federal fuel taxes. Add into that fuel consumed by visitors, an then the trucking industry. Lots of stuff comes into the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. A lot of that goes onto trucks that head out the 10 or up the 5 to destinations elsewhere in the country. In the cities south of where I live there are dozens of 100,000 plus SF distribution centers that send trucks everywhere. Lots of big truck stops too, all selling fuel and collecting taxes on that fuel. Los Angeles county alone has more residents than many other states. Everyone drives here, there is little public transportation.
The federal road tax system is mostly a good idea. Well maintained roads benefit all of us.

I've got a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport V6 Long Bed that I purchased last August and the DMV renewal fee is $593.00! Broken down as follows; 257 for registration, 229 as license fee $80.00 bucks for weight fee, and $20 for smog abatement fee, whew!

I have driven in a LOT of states. California has some of the worst maintained roads I've been on. I remember as kid noting how long it would take to repair various roads. Months-years. Most of those taxes are going elsewhere.

I get what you are saying but the bottom line is CA residents are being taken to the cleaners.
