This is why I keep my truck registered in my home state. I’d rather drive a few thousand miles than deal with this. Makes for a nice road trip every couple of years.

I assume the mobil smog checkpoints will be checking ecu versions too. These guys are not fun to deal with on your lunch break.

Probably just another way to get more money from folks without providing any legitimate product or service.

It sounds like they don’t really do a “smog test”, just a check on what software is running. Maybe if they actually tested for “smog” they might find out that the aftermarket tune is more effective at reducing “smog”.

Wishful thinking. If toyota can't recognize ov tune then I presume it will be ok. Otherwise someone can be do a smog check without sending data to dmv

A few years ago they did a version of the “smog test” in Ontario, Canada. If you lived in a large city you had to get your vehicle tested every couple of years. Go to an approved test location, hook up the test gizmo to your tailpipe and they’d measure what came out. Didn’t prove much but made more sense than this latest bright idea from CA.

Maybe they’re not as bright as they think they are. If they’re checking for ECU version, they’ll find the same thing that a Toyota dealer would find even with an OVTune installed. Nothing. All good. Have a nice day.

“If you’ve got nothing to hide, you’ve got nothing to fear.”

there are 250% more CO2 emissions from Ag farming in the Central Valley then there are from mid size truck owners. CHP can eat shit if they actually choose to enforce this.

Anyone know how exactly are they going to determine that the ECU is not OEM. If the manufacturer can’t detect an OVTune (or derivatives) how will these government bright lights do it?
