Sounds like a "Hostile Work Environment" to me.
Contact an Attorney ASAP, once you do they will NEVER fire you.

I think there is a number of large employers that require you to join a union. I used to work for UPS, they required me to join the Teamsters. Also, I worked at a grocery store when I was young, also required me to join the United Food and Commerical Workers Union. My union dues were very little, like $5-6 per week, but got great health insurance for those rates. When I worked for UPS it was in Colorado and the grocery store was in NM; neither liberal states. I'm not a fan of unions becasue I feel it is a license to slack.

Unions ruined General Motors. A lot of my family worked in the plants that are now shut down. For instance my brother told me of one guy who was just a horrible worker, they couldn't fire him because of the union so eventually in order to get him out of the plant they paid HIM $30,000 to take a job in another G.M. plant in another town. Then there were the stories of the drugs, alcohol etc....

No. Crappy unreliable cars ruined GM. Lots of union haters out there but remember all the things union member paid for with their lives: 40 hour work week, paid holidays, overtime pay etc. Big business would use us as slaves if they could get away with it. Even as a government employee my union has to constantly battle Commissary management to just follow the rules. Be glad you don't live in a "Right To Starve" state.

You may think the union is a waste of money but what wages and benefits would you be getting in a non union job? Unions fight to get us reasonable wages and benefits. Even non union jobs pay better wages than they would have because they have to compete with union companies. At the job where I work you don't have to join the union and many don't, but the ones who don't hired on because of the benefits and wages that were created by the union. So essentially these guys are freeloaders. They should be forced to quit and find a non union job where they could make less and not have the benefits etc>
