when you pressed the pistons back in to the calipers, did you open the bleeders on the caliper or just force all the junk behind the pistons into the lines?

The bleeders were taken out when I cleaned them. It started doing it again this morning so I stopped and cracked open the bleeder real quick on both front calipers and close them back and now it’s working fine but I’m not sure for how long so maybe it is something to do with too much fluid but I put the correct amount . I’ll be driving here in about an hour so I’ll let y’all know how it goes

How many miles/years did you go before flushing the brake fluid initially, and how many years since?

It was the master cylinder. Bought one, (make sure you prime the actual cylinder) tossed it on and bled like a maniac, she’s good. Guess the pad thickness revealed that it was bad for a little while. Unhooked abs , kinda scared to hook it back up or mess with anything ha about 12 hours , stress and annoyed customers because I run my own little business. Thx for any advise fellas

The old worn down Pads wouldn’t reveal a piston that was partially stuck because you have a lot of play but once you put those brand new pads in my case that were almost too thick there’s no wiggle room so Amy kind of worn pads wouldn’t reveal a piston that was partially stuck because you have a lot of play but once you put those brand new pads in my case that were almost too thick there’s no wiggle room so any kind of sticking of the piston would be easily noticeable. Are you enlightened.

My new pads or about 3/8 of an inch thick of just the ceramic part so put two of those on a rotor that previously had almost nothing touching the rotor so if the piston pushes out halfway and seizes it’s not going to be that obvious but if you have half inch pads on either side of the rotor if that piston sticks even a quarter inch out it’s going to lock up the entire rotor or at least create a heavy drag in my case. I’m just telling you what happen with mine, not every truck is the same I Actually thought the pads that I bought were too big so I had to do some doublechecking but they were the right ones but they fit really really tight until I made the necessary changes

    No.

Thanks @Alaba4.02006 for the explanation but I guess I’m still not getting the connection to the master cylinder from what you explained.

I appreciate your time to write all this up:thumbsup:.

Did a little drum and lug nut Painting while I was at it but I’m not sure how I feel about the red ceramic paint. I may switch over to dark gray to match my decals

Any of you knuckleheads have any idea why my e brake won’t hold ? It has a little tension but not enough to keep the pressure off the transmission on a steep hill. I know they’re supposed to self adjust but it didn’t and I took the consul out to do a manual adjust but it seems as if it’s already adjusted fully. But that something that I like to move onto the next because I park On a lot of hills and I like to take the pressure off the tranny before I put it in park. All new springs and pads but still doesn’t have enough tension to hold it. I realize it’s obvious that I’m not a mechanic but it seems like it should be something simple so any advice on that would be much appreciative. Off subject but right now I have my ABS off and it seems to break better in the rain without it any of you guys leave yours off ?

are your shoes adjusted correctly? theres a manually adjustable star nut that can be accessed thru a port in the axle side of the rear brakes.

Common at least in the north east. New Calipers are your only fix.

Yeah, I know about the hole to view it from and all, don’t you just make sure the clip is on the star And then reverse?

you can use a flathead screwdriver thru the view port to turn the star nut to push out the shoes.

Another question for you guys, has anyone installed and auxiliary kit so you can plug in your phone? I think GTA makes a decent one but I’m just wondering what else is out there that Tacoma owners have used and liked
