I'd say yes, its generally understood that corrosion resistant hardware would be preferred; but its also understood that most knockoff/cheap products don't come with premium hardware. At best you get a zinc coated bolt. I've come to realize when someone is proud of their product, and uses premium stainless hardware, they tell you all about it in their description. As far as their customer service (and trust me, I'm no diehard Cali advocate; I have rusty bolts too), it really seems like they gave you the best info they could. The fact that they even replied concerning a product they don't even have anymore is a miracle. There's people on this forum with thousands of dollars tied up in fab companies awaiting bumpers/sliders/skids/etc and haven't heard from the companies in 25+ weeks. THAT warrants a bash thread.

I understand your frustration, even if others think you're crazy. You expect quality when you spend your hard earned money. But let it be a $2 lesson that the customer has a responsibility to know what they're buying. That aside, unless that bolt is preventing you from using the light, I wouldn't even begin to waste my $2; its not going anywhere.

Maybe you just got a bad batch? I've had Caliraised side shooters with little allen head bolts on my truck for a few years now and they've survived MN this whole time. I keep waiting for the lenses to yellow and so far they're good.

OP, you expected the guy answering emails at CR to drop everything and run out to Ace Hardware for you to get $2 worth of bolts for a cheap light they don’t even sell anymore? And if not, well then they they don’t get anymore of your business ever, and you’ll warn everyone online of their deplorable customer service? I think we all know why they aren’t bending over backwards to stay in your good graces.

I mean it is called customer service bud.I don't remember stating that I wanted the guy to drop what he was doing and run to Ace for me. When you sell products you should stand behind them. So yes I did expect them to figure out a solution. If you want to go through life spending your money with companies that don't feel the need to value your business then go ahead. So this time it is a few cheap bolts. What if I buy something much more expensive like a bumper or whatever that has an issue? These dudes going to stand by anything they sell?

Yeah. I probably did get a bad batch or something. It happens and I am good sport about it when things go wrong, when effort is made to fix the issue.

The way he's crying, I wouldn't want to help him in any way. Only making himself look bad.

Get over it OP. Go spend the $5 in hardware. To fix YOUR Portland 164 days a year rain issue.

This is worse than rust belt folk complaining their TOyOTa is RuStiNg out.

Listen guys, I get it. We have different opinions on what we consider customer service. I appear the to be the principle type and most her appear to not be which is fine. If anything the post was worth learning a little about that.

The take away is I did in fact over pay for some Chinese junk without doing my proper research on the company. I had hardware rust out faster than anything I have seen and contacted the selling company. They don't sell them anymore and suggested I go buy myself some new bolts. I went on a Tacoma forum for opinions on if this was good costumer service when it struck me as short sighted. Most do not agree with me so I am going to let it go.

Superdave here googled how much it rains in the Portland area and just savagely crushed me. I mean just wrecked me with a deep understanding of water and rust. Luckily I have all these other bolts on my roof rack and other accessories that have magic hardware and have somehow survived the onslaught of this devastating rain. If anything I think the best idea is move to a place where it barely rains so I never have this problem again.

I think it's kind of funny how some people in here are getting all bent over it. I think posts like this should be shared so that more forum members know what they are getting. I'll admit I initially made the mistake of thinking I was getting a reasonably decent product (better than Amazon lights etc) since the brand was represented on these forums and whatnot. But now I realize that was maybe not the case. And like I mentioned earlier, the black frames started to pit and flake off on the 1st winter and then the 2nd winter (after the company told me that they wouldn't do anything for me) the actual metal mounts all started rusting heavily. So at that point, I just realized that I didn't pay for a quality product and it is what it is. I just think it's weird that so many people in this thread are like "oh well, F-off, you bought junk." But I guess I shouldn't be surprised ether.

It IS officially Friday now, there's always a chance!

What would you recommend Caliraised do for you to justify a GOOD customer service experience? Its really easy to focus on all the things they didn't do, but what do you think they SHOULD do? And take into consideration the product is discontinued, so they can't issue you replacement parts for your product. What makes the situation right in your mind?

I was in a similar situation when I bought my camper. Largest brand of RVs in the US, I paid sticker price of 11.5K for it. I knew I wasn't getting an airstream, but I expected that it was the biggest brand for a reason. I take delivery of it, and immediately notice that the freshwater tank is leaking. While I'm under it trying to find the source of the leak (It was a cross threaded spigot) I notice that the wiring is really sloppy, some not harnessed properly or at all, others have too much tension on the terminals, etc... none of it was good for a moving vehicle.

So I call my dealer and ask to repair the tank under warranty, and maybe advise on the wiring issues. And he says, "sure, but we are 3 months backlogged. You'll get it back sometime mid summer." So I call another dealer - 6 months backlogged. This was March 2017. 3 months to fix a plastic water spigot.

I sat down and thought about my options. I could wait the 3 months quietly, or I could whine about it and get absolutely nowhere, or I could do it myself since none of it was really difficult or expensive anyway. I chose the latter.

And there's the tradeoff. I didn't pay airstream price, but I do pay in occasional labor to keep that camper in tiptop shape. And that's an arrangement I'm ok with.

You can talk about principles until you're blue in the face - but at the end of the day we all face the same choice. We can shout into the wind about how the world should be, or we can work with the world that we live in. Personally, Id use this opportunity to readjust my expectations on what customer service is.

    That made me laugh! :)

OP; your expectations are just that; your expectations. But that does not mean they align with your situation. I learned a long time ago to choose my battles. A few pieces of easily replaceable rusted hardware is not a hill I would personally want to die on. Best of luck with your crusade.

I'm sorry, but why exactly were you expecting customer service from an online bro store that sells the same Chinesium garbage you can buy on Amazon for twice the price?

Also, you're being a Karen. Whining to them about rusty bolts that are exposed to the elements. You could have gone to the hardware store, spent $3, and be done replacing them before you even got a response.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
It's Friday. That means tomorrow's Saturday and you can down to your local Ace Hardware while perusing the myriad of those skinny sliding cubby drawers a take in the awe of the stainless steel parts you seek all why enjoying a bag of free popcorn (remember, it's Saturday...popcorn day). Caliraised did you a favor by sending you on this wonderful weekend jaunt.

Next time, buy Diode Dynamics. Always stainless hardware, made in USA, and an 8 year warranty. You do get what you pay for.

Well, if it’s not someone from CR going to the hardware store to get replacement bolts for you, then what is it you wish they would do? You want them to figure out a solution... Why don’t you just tell them and everyone here what would make you happy at this point? If they do that, great. If not, then you can choose to not buy anything else from them again. But I guarantee they have better things to do than try to solve the mystery of what would satisfy Farpolemiddle over a $2 problem.

I know you see it as, “it’s the principle”, but if they aren’t under warranty, and they no longer even carry or sell the parts, then most people would accept that and fix it themselves without wasting anymore thought on it. Perhaps they told you to go to the hardware store because they don’t have any of those bolts in hand to match them exactly, but since you do, that would make a lot more sense.

the worst part is CR can't even do it for him, bc they don't have any on hand to take to the hardware store to match. So I'm just beyond generally curious what resolution OP would suggest that would make his experience right in his eyes. I truly don't think there's anything more CR could do, besides offer a 10% off your next purchase coupon, or a $5 gift card to their store, but what a slap in the face that would actually be to someone this upset. OP, if you figure out the bolt size, let me know; I have a handful of stainless metric bolts; I could send a few your way.
