Starting to feel like a total a**hole. Last week I bought me a 2001 S-Runner, 83K, all maintenance records, 1 PO, in excellent condition inside and out. Toyota bed liner. Has the powers, rear sliding window, etc. Black pearl. No mods. I fell in love at first sight.

    MY
mechanic put it up on the lift and checked it all out: "You bought one helluva truck."

OK: I paid $8000. Still not sure if I got ripped or not, but I'm loving it.

Know this: Never owned a Toyota, never owned a truck, clueless about S-Runners until now (and still am). I'm pushing 60 years old.

Today I'm running around and getting some stares and thumbs up on the road. Do a little shopping and come out to find two 20-ish guys having a big O near my tailgate. "Is this yours, pop? Sh*t, you're too old for this. How much you want for this?"

    "No deal," I say.

So.... I have no intentions to modify at all. I'm starting to think I landed something good. Do I hold on to this? Do I do any mods or leave it as is, just do all maintenance and keep in primo condition in case I want to sell down the road? I expect to put on less than 7500 miles a year.

I know it's here somewhere. Twenty year-old? Hell, I'd settle for 50 with some modifications. :D

i love s runners, and if i could find one on a decent deal and decent miles i would buy it in a heart beat. i would honestly rather have the s runner than the x runner.

Throw a supercharger on there and a good clutch and have fun with it. You only live once so you may as well have as much fun while your here as you can.

OP, the following is some information on S-Runners to help you know what you got into. Note that I did not create the info but copied it from another site (tunerconcepts.net):
    What constitutes an S-Runner?

Many of you are probably aware of the Toyota X-Runner. Well, this was more or less the forefather of that sport truck -- built on the tried and true body style of the original Tacoma introduced in 1995.5

To keep it short and sweet, this is the one true way to find an S-Runner:

    Produced between 2001 and 2004
    2wd "mini" (5-lug) configuration
    5-Speed manual transmission
    3.4l 5VZ-FE V6

If you were looking for such a Tacoma, you may or may not be happy to find out that:
It only comes in extended cab configuration
It only comes in two colors (black sand pearl, or radiant red)
It's completely color-keyed ("Toyota Tacoma" door emblems were chrome on 2001 models)
It sits about 1" lower than stock 2wd (5-lug) Tacomas of the same year
Its suspension components are specific to this model (mainly shocks/springs/swaybars)
It's equipped with front and rear sway-bars
It's equipped with most "luxury" options, without option (leather wrapped wheel/shift knob, power lumbar, power windows/locks, etc)
Fewer than 200 per month were built in 2001, with declines in production each year following until the end of 2004 production *these are claims by Toyota -- actual production figures haven't been released.

Here's a link to an archive containing more information on S-Runners than most people could stomach: http://www.customtacos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53549

Hmmm, I dunno why you're questioning your purchase or your 'fit' with the truck...sounds like you're getting some well-deserved attention based on your superior tastes.:D

Good choice; imo, keep it stock...very cool.

OP, some things I forgot to mention in my previous post.

    1) I believe a supercharger was also an option of on the S-Runners, just as an FYI.

    2) Because the S-Runners are 5-lug, most aftermarket suspension items will not fit.

I think I'm correct on those statements above. Those are my own knowledge, not copy-pasted, so bear with me.

OP, sounds like you got youself a great truck. I'd love to see some pictures of it. Remember, at 60 years old, your legs will thank you for that extra 1 inch they don't have to lift to get you in the truck! Enjoy it, it will serve you well.
