Why are people razzing this dude? He's the reason the rest of us can get better deals. Don't rock the boat, mothertruckers!

Exactly. Many people are bashing the OP but that is solely because it isn't a great financially minded plan. Unless money is not of any consideration.

With a Tacoma, it doesn't sting as much because the resale value holds so well but he is still losing money to interest especially considering a 84 month term. Along with some lost sales tax money at every trade.

    Dealer gave you $30K for a 2016 SR5?

I don't feel so bad paying around $31K for a new 2018 now.

My payments are $348.38 for 60 months. Gonna try and pay it off in 36 months.

    I don’t have a 84 month term.
When I sold cars I had a customer that traded when his payment was due. Didn’t make a car payment for 2 years. It was crazy. He found high rebate cars which a dealer might not know about and they were so new it was hard to appraise. Dude would drive 100 miles for a $20 better deal.

Are we supposed to applaud you for going further into debt?

Congrats on giving the dealer money you can’t afford to.

    I’m saddened by this thread.

Dont be saddened, its his money, his choice. Keep the economy going.
The only thing this thread needs is a title change.
    May I suggest,
I got hooked by the dealers trade mailer, but I feel good about it.

I went in there expecting to leave with my old truck. I did my homework. I knew what my truck was worth, what rebates were out there, what interest rate I qual’d for with my Credit Union, and invoice on the truck( which isn’t what they paid for it) . I came in fully loaded and told my salesman I had an appt in 2 hours with a competing dealership. We were close on price. I had to discuss it with the wife and get back to them later after I stopped by the other dealer to see if they had the color I wanted. (They had it). Sales manager agreed to my payment which was based on the 4 factors I already mentioned at the term length I wanted.

As far as retirement, I’m good. My pension alone earns me $50k a year just for waking up every morning. My job currently has a strong 401k which I’m making out and my wife maxes hers out every year.

Debt trashes the economy. It only benefits those high up in major corporations.

Its the reason why new cars cost so much. If everyone bought cars for cash and they didnt buy more than 50% of their annual income cars wouldn’t cost anywhere what they do now.

Instead we have a skewed economy that is not sustainable and tons of people who retire broke and live off only social security.

People go into debt and are so intitled they buy a new car every year and go online and brag about it.

    Thats sad.

Correct. The dealer didn’t do anything wrong, dishonest, or misleading to get “called out” for. Seems like OP wanted a new truck and wants to feel good about the process that made it happen.

No need to explain anything. Sounds like you did your homework. No need explaining your decision. This is your new truck, your deal and your business. People don't like it they can kiss your ass and move on. Congrats on the new truck and I hope you enjoy it. I too am retired, did it at age 41 and took another job doing the exact same thing. I applaud you for it.

Why is everyone talking trash about OP? Who cares if he likes to have new cars, that's his choice. Maybe he's done well for himself and he can afford to pay for his decisions. Maybe he has his retirement in order already. Who knows what his finances looks like... Not our place to judge and comment on.

Those of you who are crying about someone else's life choices need to find better things to do with your time.

OP, congrats on the truck. Enjoy it for a few months/years and get a new one later if you choose.

It annoys people to see another human financially comfortable and buying things they wish they could buy.

You wanted to upgrade to a more well equipped model. I don't think anyone would fault you for that. Maybe you should have taken a little more time when you purchased the 2016 to evaluate getting the sport.

The pigpile is because you're giving off the vibe that you pulled a fast one over on the dealer. The way the math likely works out is that more money is going to be coming out of your pocket than if you had 1.) kept the SR5 or 2.) bought a sport to begin with.

compared to most of us, you're paying more by flipping vehicles all the time. But you seem to know this, are ok with it, so enjoy your new Sport.

That's really unfortunate. Its that kind of behavior that leads to car prices hitting the moon.

You don’t need to defend yourself against these salty jealous people. You’re probably in a better financial position than the people here trying to make themselves feel better by criticizing you lol.

I know a ton of people good with money that work the system and get new cars all the time and end up overall paying less than the moron who thought he was so smart buying a Hyundai because “such value” lol

I was also in the car business, I’ve beat the shit out of my Tacoma for 40k miles and I could sell it right now for only $4k less then i paid OTD two years ago, I also have an EV that I drive for literally free... but salty old men in here would swear I’m somehow getting robbed by the dealer because I have two brand new cars that I won’t keep more than 3 years each.

My last two Tacoma’s I drove for free as well. I’m 32, I’ve owned 20 vehicles in my life and only had a net loss on 5 of them and on those it was barely a loss.

If you’re flexible, patient and know how to work the system you can get a different car every year and overall spend less $ than the “frugal” jackoff who bought a brand new Kia and kept it for 10 years.... because consumer reports told him that was the “smart” thing to do.
