About two months ago I replaced my rear leaf springs with Dorman factory replacements (great springs from rockauto) at 126k miles they were starting to get weak figured Id replace them before they broke as these obviously are known to do. So now we get this letter about an incoming recall for the springs breaking..

Well shit I just spent $400 replacing mine so I called the Toyota hotline and told them just that. Lady told me when a fix is available they will send out a letter about it and with the letter it will have instructions on how to submit for reimbursement on repairs I had preformed.

SO I know many people have had to replace their springs on their own dime there might be some hope for us to get maybe a little bit of money back. would be nice to get a full refund but i wont hold my breath on that

Just at the dealer about this and another issue today. Got the same answer. Apparently we wait for a letter, which is sent based on registration address (not original purchaser address). That's what they said, anyway.

So what you're saying is that you would rather have Toyota replace the original crappy leaf springs with newer crappy leaf springs and that you would have not installed better leaf springs on your dime?

Just replaced my center leaf on one side was going to do the other side tomorrow. Both of mine cracked in half. Hopefully toyota will fork over some cash. Has anyone had any luck? Only spent $120 on two new leaves so not too worried I guess, just super annoying when it takes toyota so long to put a recall on something .

I got the "interim" notice about the leaf spring recall. I also found the following Q&A about this recall helpful:

    e12tofaq.pdf

Taking my truck in to the dealer for an inspection later this week.

I had the middle leaf snap on the right side a couple months ago. I just had the mechanic fabricate a new leaf at the time (much cheaper!) Now I'm hoping to get a complete new set of springs and a reimbursement for the previous repair. I'll post a follow-up when I get more info/results.

Got my interim letter yesterday too. I figure I may be getting new leafs when the frame gets replaced anyway, so I'm not doing anything about it until after that.

Have any of you guys gotten the TSB springs? I got the letter and I already had my first set of springs swapped out a few years ago with the stiffer setup.

I wonder if this is also for the second set.............

My letter stated 3 or 4 leafs. I'm assuming it is for the TSB Springs as well.

I wonder if they'll re-install AALs if we have them now?

    None yet
I got my letter this week too, and like someone mentioned it says

"The subject vehicle's rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves."

I have an '06 TRD DC and it has only two leaves out back. So the original previous owner never had the TSB done to do the upgrade.

Any idea if mine will also be covered? I've been wanting to fix those two leaf packs, they suck.

    Recd spring notice last week.
Truck went into dealer. Dealer does not know yet whether corporate will replace or repair. Needs to go back.
They looked at gas pedal, seat belts & frame also.
    New frame on order.
Truck is '07 with 50k & always garaged.

3" lift in the front 2" blocks in the back - 265/75r16 BFG AT
I received the letter last week.

I installed strut extensions in front and 2" blocks in back. Will these blocks in the back keep me from getting the dealership to fix the leaf spring issue, whatever that may be?

    Thanks for the info

Of course you can make sure they have you as the current owner, by sending in the change of ownership card from the owners manual packet. Assuming it's still in there, but you can probably do it online as well. I assume they verify these somehow against the state vehicle registrations, so it may get updated automatically for that matter.

^ You can do it online by putting in your VIN on the Toyota website.

I spent yesterday morning delivering the 08 Pre-Runner to Orr Toyota in Duncanville. Second time for a recall and they were polite and to the point. Wait for the next letter. After searching TacomaWorld, I noticed Bearch suggested entering the Vin in the Toyota website. That lead to the safercar.gov site and that lead to the most recent Defect Information Report which stated:

    Description of Corrective Repair Action:

All known owners of the subject vehicles will be notified by first class mail. Toyota dealers will replace
the rear leaf spring assemblies with improved ones.

Go to https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin then enter your vin number. Look for NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000. The link is in the upper left of the sheet.

So now we wait? Other posts on this site have photos of the new 4 leaf spring installed. Hope this is true as the lean is so bad I fall out of the cab when the door is open.

Holely fuel tank batman, we get new springs!

Took my 2007 DCSB into the dealer with a broken passenger side leaf. I was told that my truck was unsafe to drive (which I tend to agree with), However it will take the dealership 2 weeks to get a replacement, and Toyota will not cover a loaner or rental car? WTF. I don't have an extra vehicle, and renting a car for 2 weeks will cost me as much as a new leaf pack from ALL-Pro.....
