Anyone doing any contracting?? I've been over in Afghanistan for the past 7 months with Triple Canopy, my contract ends in 4 months, looking for another contract.

I also have 26 Applications out on USA jobs, all for Wildland Firefighting (handcrew, Engine, helitak) Forest Service, National Parks, BLM, and Fish and Wildlife.

Worked for the USFS on an engine this summer. You will likely get called soon as a VRA appointment. If you go through www.teamrubiconusa.org you can try to get your red card before the summer for freezing they actually pay you for the courses.

Nice, I have a good friend who works on an USFS Engine out of Nevada. I'm really hoping I get picked up by someone, I applied everywhere, Washington, Oregon (home), California, Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Alaska. Hoping for a position on a hand crew.

Are you going to be on an Engine again this Summer?

Not sure. I have rehire rights. I just started a new job though and make great money. I am also a volunteer firefighter in my county now so I may sit the season out. We will see. I might apply to Mendocino. They are the closest state side forest in Hawaii’s GACC so they we flown out there to fight fires all the time. I would not mind free flights to Hawaii this summer.

 

Haha I hated that. The only thing I liked about living at Mackie Hall was the fact our Company formations would be held on the basketball court.

 

Loved Mackie hall cause the chow hall was right there. But so was the company office

My Dad - taken at Parris Island in July 1944. He was high shooter in his platoon so several copies of the photo and a press announcement were sent to our local paper..where my grandmother worked as a proofreader. I have the original photo and press sheet, along with the scorebook you can see in his breast pocket in a case in my den with a placeholder M1 Garand until I (hopefully) find the one he's holding SA2860035.

Too late to be deployed for WWII he ended up a El Toro Air Base, ultimately ended up in the USMCR, was activated for the Korean Conflict and went to Korea. He passed away while I was an Army battalion commander having deployed the Bn from Germany to Bosnia in '96. He was in a coma by the time I got back to the US and I never got to say goodbye. Hopefully he wasn't too disappointed that I ended up in the Army.
