I have not been in any of the armed forces, but would like you guys to know about my uncle, Webster Robertson, 5th Marine Division, wounded on Guam in first amtracs to beach, rehabed on Guadalcanal and finally seriously wounded on the Shuri Line on Okinawa. He won't be with us much longer.....he enlisted when he was 17 and wanted to join the Navy, but says he stood in the wrong line....:) I am so proud of Web. He said he "survied 55 days on Okinawa" and was so tired he decided to crawl out of his foxhole to cut some grass to make it softer, shot in back 3 times. The medic that saved him was killed an hour later by a mortar. I can only imagine the fear and pain he endured as young teenager really. He said he never saw one Japanese soldier the whole time and never even fired his rifle.

If Uncle Web is still around, tell him "Semper Fi" and thank him for me for making this world a better place. I'm sure his experiences would make a great book or movie.

I will David. He's my hero. I have read both official books from the Marine Corp Library about Guam and Okinawa.

I know some Marines, and other armed services fellows that I work with, who can't get through this song with out tears. All of them make it to the traveling wall memorial when it comes to Brevard County Florida, and actually escort it through the county on Harleys. They shut down US 1 in Honor of it's arrival. It is one hell of a thing to witness.

My unit, MASS 6, was at El Toro before it closed and all units moved to either MCAS Miramar or Pendleton.

It was quite a thing to see helos flying all day at MCAS Tustin and fixed wing stuff at El Toro. Everytime I drive by I miss it.

Gotcha. The Stumps eh? Shitty place. Been there a couple of times, mainly flying through for Moj Vip. I did enjoy the winding road drive from Pendleton though.

FNG here on the forums. Been lots of places, seen lots of things. For those who are out or retired, thanks for doing your time. If you are still in the reserves or on active duty, stay safe, keep your head down, and look out for the Marine beside you.
