From a run up to Carmel for a memorial service and stopping in the Chevron oil fields in Lost Hills, Ca. along CA46, I caught the last light glancing off this pump jack. It was a long ways off so this was shot with a Canon 500mm adapted to the Fuji GFX. I processed the same raw file twice for the color contrast and blended them together for hopefully a unique take on this subject matter.LostHills_DSCB2675_1500.jpg

I've been having fun with my D500, trying to hone my skills at the same time.

Probably 60-80 photos before I captured an acceptable one:

Trying to focus on getting tack sharp photos. Still need more practice.

I love shooting with the supertelephoto (Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6), even if that means I have to walk comically far away for a photo.

Nice images - the D500 is a super good camera and that 200-500 lens is a beast. I rented one for a week and turned the tripod-jack upside
down and carried the entire camera around like an AR15 LOL... getting in and out of the car with that thing was an adventure. Took a real nice
image but I had a bit of a hard time focusing with it especially with rather close up shots.

I also rented the Sigma 100-400 and what a difference - easy to handle, much lighter, and takes a decent image as well.
Ended up buying that one and coupled it with the D7200.

I'm in metro-phoenix - I know a few decent spots depending on where you are if you want some coordinates for wildlife stuff I have a few spots.

As you photography folk know, light is everything.

My favorite picture is the black and white. I did not take that one but wanted to share for you Canucks.

The photo after the black and white is what I loved to do back in the 90’s. My college professor mentioned in the 30 years he taught, and showed around the world, he never saw work like mine. I absolutely loved doing it, but let it go.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Nothing fancy. A Canon EOS with a Canon EF 75-300mm.

I do hundreds of offroad trips. Primary interest is getting into remote nature, alone. Plus fishing, hiking, and exploring throughout BC. Retired so usually weekly trips.

I know nothing about photography, despite wanting to learn. Too lazy.

    I snap pictures.

The moon alone is a cool shot - but the editing is pretty excellent too.
