That's a unique way to shoot that arch in sunrise, haven't seen that view of it - nice! Just wondering what type of rack did you get and if you can stand on it- I'm interested in getting a good one as a photography stand... thanks!

IMG_0675.jpg Went up to Idaho for the 2017 eclipse, and first camping trip in my new 3rd Gen -totally worth it ! Nikon D7000, D300 and various Nikon lenses. Favorite is my MF 600mm f/4 AI- I bought it used and it has seen a lot of use as it used to belong to Reuters News Service, but its Japanese built like they used to build all the good Yota's. It's an ugly bumped and scratched beast on the outside, but has clean glass and shoots stuff like this:

    IMG_0735.jpg

I also posted these because they were all taken from the driver's side window of my 1st Gen Taco with the beast lens too:

    IMG_0752.jpg IMG_0753.jpg IMG_0754.jpg

Tacos make really great photography blinds! Check out what the redtail hawk just caught... really shows off the "food chain"- producer, herbivore (1st order consumer), and predator (2nd order consumer) all in one shot.

    Eclipse!
We went to the mountains in Western Idaho to watch the eclipse.

    Partial

Totality, Mercury is faintly visible to the lower left of the sun, about half way between the edge of the sun and the edge of the picture.

    Total

Totality, Venus is visible to the upper right of the sun and moon, close to the edge of the picture.

During totality the light is like sunset without the red.

    Milky Way

No crowds, 6 other people and some cows in our area. All cows left before coming into rock range :).

Great shots- wasn't Idaho grand?! I shot so many pre-totality shots before totality hit that my card filled up during totality and I missed getting the "diamond ring" at the end! Over it now, I can laugh at my stupid self for that one. We were north of Boise about 20miles in on forest roads in Boise NF. Came up to a paved, yes paved campground with one open space! It was good the area around the campground was paved, I couldn't believe all the dust from cars going by further down canyon. Fished for trout dinners, and watched the eclipse in the morning. What a great break- in trip for the new truck!

Sucks that your card filled up, I took a lot of pictures pre-totality too so I understand. I missed the diamond ring too but I watched it.
Did the campground have a fence to keep the cows out? We woke up one morning to a sound like someone dying of sleep apnea. Turned out to be a big angry looking bull with a heart drawn on it's butt. It left as I was putting on my boots so I could engage it if it got too close.

Tamron is nowhere near as good as Canon lenses, plus the zoom is backwards I believe.

Anyone have a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 for sale? I want to get rid of my 17-35mm f/2.8 and use the 24-70mm as the daily

I'm leaning your way on this discussion...canon lenses are quality. But for the price, in a utility function, Tamron stand up

It's been awhile for me...what's zeiss have in the market these days...quality wise

...so get on the many camera/lens reviews that are out there for comparisons before you say "...nowhere as good".
I have been shooting professionally for over 18 years...Canon, Nikon, used both Nikon/Cannon OEM lenses and a few Tamron lenses specifically the Tamron 24-70 f2.8, and just recently Sony AR7ii mirrorless camera with the Sony 24-70 f2.8 (42 mb pics and unreal sharpness) and I teach photography on the side...side of my day job being an mechanical engineer...a real rocket scientist....human spaceflight and tons of on-orbit imagery experience (17 years) with the crews on-board ISS (International Space Station) and have done my own side by side comparisons so your statement at best is just your opinion.
Tamron also has a unreal 6 year warranty. Great if you want to get your lens cleaned and/or re-calibrated.
If I was a hobbyist hands down would get a Tamron as my only lens. I have always owned a Tamron when I was shooting weddings was on both my prime camera and my back-up cameras. Amazing contrast and color and typically beats out both Canon and Nikon glass on that aspect alone....for almost half the price...not to mention VR (vibration reduction) built into the lens...that has been my experience....
Canon to this day with their 'new' 24-70 still doesn't have VR, image stabilization.
Nikon and Canon have opposite zoom of each other....Tamron zoom is like Nikon.
I shoot mostly 'models' now...and that is what I teach monthly...glamour photography....via money making workshops....which funds my surf trips for over the pond locations....since Mex got all F*#ked up these last few years....Michoacán is a little too hairy to be out in the countryside chasing waves with all the Mex cartels shaking down and in other cases killing us cabron.
All images attached were shot with the Tamron 24-70 VR f2.8 on a Canon.
Besides....photography is about lighting, lighting, lighting then about composure.
You can have a low res camera with a semi-ok lens and if you have the lighting and exposure right...you can take an awesome image. I get amazing images off my iPhone 6s....no need to haul a camera around when on vacation anymore.
The attached images are low res not to mention when you upload to this site the images get some blurring.
Reality is they are sharp as chit...
The 'model' in the last 2 images...she was a wanna be...super sweet....she was 39 at the time and after squeezing out 4 kids....never seen a woman like that!! I asked her if she worked out and she said no...I said yes you do....with 4 kids! She's part Cherokee and Mexican....great genes no doubt!

Just a reminder what this thread is originally about. As much as I appreciate all photography this is a truck forum after all :D
