No problem. Happy to share what I know. And yes, used a tripod. Impossible to shoot either shot without setting the camera on something stable. I actually shoot most of my landscape photos from a tripod. Even during the day. For longer exposures like the night shots, I set the self timer so the shutter triggers a few seconds after I press the shutter release. This prevents any blur from movement in the camera when I press it. Sometimes I will use a remote. Just depends how lazy I am. LOL

Nice. Have not yet visited Ecuador but want to. I will eventually make it there.

Like I said, happy help out where I can. If there is anything specific you want to know just ask.

This shot was taken with a Nikon D300 which I still have along with a D200 and two D2H bodies. Currently my D800 is the main camera now with a slew of lenses, too many to list. All Nikkor glass.

I recently replaced that chrome grill with a color matched grille. Looks much nicer.

I remember when someone lived in this house. This one taken with D800.

Hey guys, looking to get a full-framed DSLR camera. I have a Nikon now and I would like to stay Nikon since I have lenses for my current DSLR. Can anyone recommend a model they have liked? Good for the amateur photographer?

    I still have a D
Any of the FX bodies Nikon offers are great.
    D610
    D750
    D850

I would highly recommend you take advantage of the folks upgrading to the D850 and buying a lightly used D810. It's a fantastic camera. Unreal dynamic range. The benefit of the D810 over the lower end FX bodies like the 610 and 750 is the weather sealing. For me that is huge. Not waterproof but I can shoot in the rain or other elements without too much concern. Button layout is better too.

One thing.. Make sure your existing lenses are NOT Dx or crop body lenses. They will work on an FX body but you will have a dark vignette around the outer edges of the frame unless it's a zoom lens and you zoom in to a shorter focal length.

For example, when I switched to FX body, I had a Dx 11-16mm. I had to shoot at 16mm to avoid the dark ring/vignette.

That said, of all appreciable upgrades in gear, going from Dx to Fx is huge. You will see it in your photos.

Awesome! Thank you so much. Is there anything I should be extra cautious of when buying used?

I recently got the D750 and it’s probably the best purchase I’ve ever made (not including my Taco haha). I’m still very much a beginner but it has really made me focus shooting everything in manual!

Most people take really good care of their camera gear. I would request them to take a photo of the sky. Preferably either completely overcast or blue sky. Basically, that the color is uniform. Have them send you the pic. Check the photo for any signs of scratches on the sensor. They will appear as blurry lines. You may see dust blobs but those are of no concern and pretty normal. You can blow them off the sensor.

Then check the shutter count by uploading the pic to one of the many sites on the web that will show shutter actuations recorded in the exif data. The D810 is rated at about 150-200k actuations. Anything sub 30k is pretty damn good. The lower the better.

Then have them take photos of the camera itself to check for obvious signs of neglect. Dents or big gashes. Wearing of the black paint is pretty normal. All my bodies have the paint completely worn off on the bottom corners from rubbing on my jeans when I carry them on my sling strap.

Recommend you check Fred Miranda forum and KEH. The latter is a vendor that buys and sells used gear. Better deal will be found on FM forum. You can check the members history and if they've sold before, their rating.

Use PayPal of course and do NOT send money as gift. Insist that it be done through a product purchase transaction. This will give you some protection should something to wrong the transaction.

I will take a look into that this evening. Thanks for the help. I have been wanting one for a while but it was just never the right time to make the investment. I'd like to kick off 2018 with a few new toys :)
