thats awesome Chief! I want a Mirrorless, but have so much tied up with Nikon F mounts, that I am not ready to make the jump yet.

I imagine there is minimal fall off with a F to Z mount....so that may be my solution when I finally switch to a mirrorless.

I dunno I've held these Z cameras - they feel small in the hand. The D7xxx series feel really big. I'm happy with the results I get from my D3500 with the expeed4 processor. And, like you, I have a few F mount lenses that I'd rather not have to switch over to. Sure the Z results are swell but I'm not a pro...

Since I had two c sensor cameras (Nikon P900 & D300S), all my lenses were set to the. D300S. I wanted to at least have on good full frame so I chose the Z6ii. Love the camera and size. Also, in crop mode, I get c sensor results. My 70-200mm will be out to 300mm in crop mode (similar to my old 18-300mm). On a budget, I can get a 2x teleconverter and have a 140-400mm (full frame), losing a bit going from 2.8 to 5.6 f stop, but I’m by no means a pro. Just love nature. Here’s a couple of rabbit shots. I do like rabbits. C789A6C0-3E38-4B24-A738-5F8FF9647A57.jpg11A5F18F-5FF1-4133-8561-3E3D061F7BE1.jpg
I like birds, squirrels, etc. too. Anyway, that’s my reason for the switch.

I love nature too. Have done 2 trips to the Galapagos Islands and had the opportunity to take many pictures. We had a Nikon D70 with an nikkor DX18-200mm lens, a D300 with a Tamron 18-300 lens and the most recent trip the D70 was replaced with a D3400 with nikkor DX 18-300 lens. Below are some shots from both trips.

These are awesome. Just beautiful photos. I had a D70 at one time and miss the folders setup. When on a trip to Germany, Italy, etc., I was able to create folders with a 5 digit name. That was great (Rome, Pisa, etc.). Wish Nikon kept that setup. I’d love that on my Z6ii. Again, awesome!

Hey, aloha. New to the forums but wanted to introduce myself. My name is Lyle, and I'm a professional landscape/underwater photographer based on Maui. I've been shooting for 23 years or so, since the black and white film days back in college...doing it for a living full time for about 8 years. I have a gallery here in Paia on our north shore and lead underwater workshops to Tonga to swim with the humpbacks, teaching folks about the whales and how to photograph them (along with lots of post processing as well). I was starting to run white shark trips to Guadalupe as well, but covid put the brakes on all of that for now. Hoping to get those trips up and running again along with some new ones over the next few years.

For the gear heads, I am a Sony shooter. Currently using the a7riv, 8-15L, 12-24gm, 16-35gm, 50za, 65 voigt, 85gm. RRS tripods, F Stop bags. Underwater, I use Nauticam and Aquatech housings, Sea and Sea strobes. Previously shot Canon for maybe 19 years, and I am doing a little bit of underwater film here and there with an old Nikonos V for a personal project to keep myself entertained.

This forum has been an amazing resource for me as a new Tacoma owner (I'll get some photos one of these days after my wheels and lift get here), and I wanted to offer to give back in an area I can. I would consider myself an advanced shooter and editor, and can help with any questions you might have about photography...anything from composition and light to focus stacking, exposure blending, enlarging and sharpening for XL print (I regularly print to 80" wide or more), color space, etc. Business questions as well if you're considering making the leap. Please feel free to reach out if you need anything!

Anyway, here are a few from the last few years.

Jaws, here on Maui. I shoot it a LOT, having missed only perhaps 6 days on the water in the last 8 years. This one is from the Pe'ahi Challange a few years ago, the board is attached to Andrea Moller. Maybe a 40' high wave here, the largest I have a photo of with a rider is 72'.

Here's a VERY young calf from Tonga. Swims with calves this young are very rare, as mom is on edge and worried about her new baby. Just a few weeks later, we can have 90 minute swims with mom and calf pairs once she settles down a bit and the calves are bigger (to avoid predation) and more confident swimmers. There is nothing in the world like swimming with an intelligent, aware, and gentle animal the size of a school bus.

THE Wanaka tree, from New Zealand. From 2019, went there pretty much for this tree and shot it on four separate occasions.

A 12' white shark coming in after hitting the bait in Guadalupe in 2019. He hit the cage right above my head after this, waking us all up. To my right was a guy filming for Nat Geo, still waiting on the video...I doubt I'll ever see it.

Secret spot here on Maui, took me quite a while to find the location and it involves trespassing and then swimming with the gear.

Nice to meet you and thanks for all the knowledge so far,

    Lyle

Amazing shots and it is NOT helping my desire to get back to Maui, so thanks for that, Lyle!

    @2021SR5V64WD Appreciate it!

@Fargo Taco Thanks, and come back soon! Though it's pretty crazy right now, super busy and hard to get rental cars. They just dropped testing for vaccinated travelers, so it's only going to get worse in the short term. Once they drop the indoors mask mandate it'll be time to come back for a visit for sure, maybe within a month or two.

My wife has a conference she goes to every year that I tag along for. It rotates between Kauai, the Big Island and Maui.

We should have been to Maui 3 times now but we've only made it once. For the second trip, she booked plane tickets to the Big Island by mistake and the cost to either island hop or get the tickets changed cost too much so she skipped the conference and we just had a vacation on the Big Island.

The conference was supposed to have been back on Maui again last year, but it was cancelled for obvious reasons.

Which then means I'll have to wait until 2023 for another chance at Maui.

We're currently stalking plane tickets for the upcoming conference on Kauai. Hopefully things have settled down a bit before February!
