thanks! I live a little north of Dallas, but this is my family’s ranch about 2 hours south… it gets pretty dark when the moon isnt too bright… I wanted to try to get a milky way shot.. but with the full moon, the sun may as well have been out lol

In the spirit of the upcoming Milky Way Season, I just wanted to share one of my favorite shots from last year. This was my first real shot of the milky way on my star tracker. I'm going to go and stay in a darker location, and try to get some more shots this Spring.

I disagree with the statements there, it should say the Milky Way Core. You can spot parts of the Milky Way right now.

I got this one with my cell phone while put in the field… Not the best, but not bad for a cell phone.
    T’was late October.

My actual camera is a Nikon D90. I don’t bring it to the field with me though as I don’t want it to get smashed in my ruck.

After looking around a bit and discovering that the A6000 has started to sorta get phased out, Ive decided I might get the A6100. Can get it bundled with a 16-50mm lense. Its like $200 more than the A6000 with the same bundle so still gonna decide. Trying to get something for my truck with my tax money too lol.

Nikon digital since roughly 2006 and a few rolls of 35mm a year for something to do.

Nice lineup. .. I got the Pentax K1000 here at the house too. That thing was a beast. Still is I suppose.
I'm a NIKON fan, like their bodies and their glass is excellent.

I want the 500pf if I ever come into some disposable cash.

My parents had a k1000 when I was a kid and I learned to shoot on it. (That nikon fe2 is several steps up the food chain though) I searched high and low and never did find it. I found this one off of a lady that I work with. Cleaned the battery terminals, fresh battery and light seals and it is good to go. The lens she had was a 50mm f2 but it had hazed over, found a mint 50m f1.4 locally.

The closest thing out now to the film experience would be the fuji xt series or I guess the nikon zfc . There is still something about shooting film full manual and having no idea what your pics look like until they get back. Ohh and most places do not develop the way that they used to. It's a digital scan of the negative and not a very good one at least from what I've seen from the place local to me.

So fresh it doesn't even have license plates yet... I guess it does now, but the pickup is currently on jack stands to remove the 3/2 spacer lift. I'm waiting on the ECGS bushing to replace the needle bearing that the silly spacer lift messed up already.

If a 6100/6400/6600 fits your budget definitely start there they are the new models of the 6000/6300/6500. Kit camera comes with the 16-50mm on the a6000 as well, its a decent kit lens but you can definitely get much better lenses for not a whole lot of money that are an immediate upgrade. When I bought mine the 6100 was out of my budget range I was comfortable throwing at my first camera. Now that I have gotten into it I would love to get a 6100 or 6400 but knowing they are the same line up and same sensor/mount I can use all the accessories across both cameras.

From our trip out to Colorado. We got a little lost around Sylvan Lake and ended up taking the 414 up to Eagle. Luckily our rental was a 4x4 Grand Cherokee but we found some great secluded spots along the way too.
