    Hey all!

I just got a 2020 Tacoma SR in the 4x4 V6 Double Cab configuration
    - I know it's the base, but budgets and what not!

Anywho, I noticed that none of the dash buttons light up at night
    - I tried a bunch of settings and googling, even going through the manual! I tried the brightness settings for the instrument panel little brightness knob, touch-screen settings, and the headlight - and nothing!!

I messaged the sales guy (who's demo it was) and he said "they don't light up."

This would be kind of a big deal for me as up here in Canada half the year it's dark almost all day and I am likely a way out before having muscle memoried each button - plus it just feels pretty unsafe/borderline illegal? I feel like even my 2002 Hyundai Accent had the buttons backlit...

Anyway, I went on a pretty aggressive YouTube hunt and found the exact same truck at another Canadian Dealership that shows the buttons lighting up:

As well as several other videos where you can see them lit but nothing specifically focused on the dash buttons saying they do/don't light up.

My ask before I take it to the next level with my local dealership is to make sure they're supposed to light up, other SR owners - do the dash buttons light up?!!?

I've attached a few photos from my truck as well as a screenshot from the YouTube video as a reference!

Thanks so much and so happy to be in the Tacoma world! Also, I did comb thru previous forums and couldn't locate this issue being addressed - if it was, and I missed it, my bad for sure! Also also, sorry for the massive images, insert as thumbnail wants them this size

So none of them light up when you have your parking lights on? Maybe I'm misreading this?

It doesn't seem to matter what lights I have one, whether the headlights are on Auto/Off/On and/or if the interior lights are on. Hopefully that helps clarify?

i don't have a 2020 with the new headunit so play around with the settings a bit to make sure it's not disabled in there but everything definitely should be able to light up

The dimmer may fix that. I can't remember what all changes. It's the same button you use to reset the odometer. Just twist it to the sides. That may just be for the screens, but worth trying.

I've tried everything I can possibly find including twisting the odo knob, it seems like it's almost something defective (fuse or just not set up originally) or they just don't light up

Wtf. The lights on buttons should light up with the lights on. Definetily not right, thats really unsafe at night. Sales guy is a moron, most of them are pretty clueless.

Even my 3spd 83 nissan stanza had buttons that lit up at night haha.

Take it to another dealer and tell them to fix it. I have an SR and the lights should light up when the headlights or parking lights are on (you must manually toggle).

My 2017 SR lights up as well, sounds like a blown fuse. If I remember correctly, the fuse is labeled "illumination" or something like that, maybe im thinking of something else from work hah, ill dive into a wiring diagram in a sec

If I'm reading this correctly, the illumination circuit is a bunch of green positive and orange ground wires, they get power via the tail light relay through a 5 amp "Panel Fuse". If your tail lights and everything else work, Id bet on that 5 amp fuse being blown

Yeah might be worthwhile to poke around the fuses instead of going through the dumb dealers.

not only do the dash buttons get illuminated. The overhead console, and the door locks and window control buttons.

If you already checked the dimmer to make it's in the right setting then I would think it's a fuse that maybe bad. I have the TRD trim and when I first got the truck I noticed the gear selector (P, R, N, D) in the center console wouldn't light up. Took it to the dealer ended up being a bad fuse and they replaced it.

Thank ya! Also, sounds so much better than the total darkness I've currently been driving in

I got a hold of a tool to check the fuses! 3 don't light up when tested but pulling them out they are totally fine/not blown so assume some feature that just isn't turned "on" while testing?

I'm not super up on all the verbiage but 5 amp "Panel Fuse" = relay? I attached a couple of pics highlighting the fuses that don't light up when tested but aren't blown!

I booked an app with service Thursday morning so crossing my fingers this 'fun' project is almost at an end. Gotta say tho, I am so stoked to have found TW. I literally looked everywhere for days and you all have been f*cking unreal amazing helpful.
