i haven't received my truck yet. One of the first mods I always do to a vehicle is a viper remote start with two way transmitter. From what I'm reading and what multiple installers are telling me is that when the vehicle is remotely started and the door is unlocked and opened to enter the engine shuts off. That this is a federally mandated law on Toyota and Lexus vehicles 2013 and newer Is there a way to bypass this?
Like bypassing the door switch? I've never owned a vehicle with push button start either. Can anyone confirm if this is possible?
    Thanks in advance

I can't contribute too much but I'll try. For the factory Subaru remote start (with push button start), as soon as you open the door it shuts off, then you have to start it back up once you get in. Just like you're saying. There's a guy on the subaru forum who had an aftermarket one installed that bypassed that.

I guess what I'm saying is that most likely it can be bypassed.

I had a remote start installed and it does shut off when the door is opened, not unlocked just opened. If it is opened and you didn't shut it down it won't start right away (it cranks for 20 seconds or so before it starts like it's starving) so I let it sit for a few and restarted it push button style. I asked the installer (not dealership) and he told me it was a safety but didn't know if he could override it. It's kind of a PIA...

I have an 2016 SR DCSB V6 4X4 AUTO. I had a viper alarm with remote start installed. It will not shut down when I open the door. I must put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position, foot on break and the shift to drive to go. If it touch the brake before turning the key to on, the engine will shut down and I have to restart.

I can stand out side the truck with the door open and remote start the truck.

OP is going to be getting a push button start. I believe it shuts off so not anyone can just drive away with it.

then I would guess i shouldn't read, drink and post. just reread it. I'm sure there is work around. just as remote starts "couldn't" be installed in manuals.

    Thanks for the replies
Does your truck have the push button start?

I'm wondering if the door switch can be bypassed, I know this will make it easier for the truck to be stolen but I'd obviously have the doors locked til I'm outside the vehicle. Now hearing that you have to wait a bit before restarting makes this even crazier...

Pretty sure they're feeding you bullshit in an attempt to convince you to buy their products. My understanding is that the lack of 'system override' functionality (which would be necessary to prevent the engine from shutting off when a door is opened) is due to Toyota's encryption of the software involved, and not due to some federal laws. At least this is what I was told by my dealer and several third-party remote start installers.

    I hope so
The Installers I spoke with I told them I would be bringing my own remote start, so they wouldn't be supplying anything but the labor. I'm wondering if you could kind of "trick "the truck into thinking the doors closed, maybe by having the door switch depressed, or remote starting the car while you're in it so you don't have to open the door ?
After hearing that once the car is remotely started and then you open the door and it shuts off you have to wait a bit before trying to restart otherwise it cranks for about 20 seconds is kind of making me second-guess taking delivery of the truck. Then I guess I will just have to ask myself is remote start that important… It kind of seems that way because I'm so used to it having it. I've had it in every vehicle ive owned in the past 15 years

Tricking the truck into thinking the door is closed while it's actually open may be clever enough to work, but it is also likely to introduce all kinds of legal liabilities should some freak accident happen. Doubt too many installers will want to mess with that without having a product that takes care of all the dirty work for them.

The PTS introduces a lot of issues when trying to by-pass things since most if the functions are built into the ECM and hosts of other on board electronics.. According to Viper Toyota made it extremely hard to by-pass override starting procedure of these trucks.

I guess so, having remote start and all my cars that were manual and having to get around the sequence i would have to do before parking in order to set the car up remote start afterwards I thought was difficult enough. the dealer wouldn't tell me how due to liability reasons

    This is an extreme bummer
Does anyone know if the truck could be ordered without a push to start?

I have remote start on mine but it's an auto, I don't understand why some of you don't want it to shut down when you open the door, if it didn't the vehicle could be stolen, generally when you step on the brake to place it in gear. OP if you have had manual trans and have had remote start on them are you parking it in neutral or leaving it in gear? If in gear I hope you have a really good brake! If you try to start a manual in gear without the clutch in the vehicle jumps! If you park it in neutral and your parking brake fails or you forget to set it and remote start it shame on you!:confused:

I always parked every manual car I've had in neutral The truck I ordered is an automatic It just seems kind of stupid to me starting the truck from in the house, walking outside to go to say, work unlocking the doors opening the truck and the truck shuts off. then I have to restart it, just seems like unnecessary wear on the starter, now another member stated that you have to wait a little bit before you try restarting the car otherwise it cranks for 20 seconds. I guess what I could do is start the truck and then a minute before I leave to go out to it shut it off then get in it start it and go, this is really for the winter when the windows need to be defrosted, it's easier to get into a warm truck and defrost them right away rather than sitting it for a while while it warms up or drive with frosted windows

It is not a big deal to restart the truck again. What remote starts did you have on your other vehicles that did not require restarting! I don't know how long you have been driving but I do know parking your vehicle in neutral and leaving it is not a good idea! If facing downhill park in reverse gear, facing uphill park in a forward gear. Front wheels turned into curb when facing downhill, turned away from curd when uphill. Avoid parking brake when temp is freezing or snow and ice.

All vehicles had viper remote starts. I don't think I've ever parked on a hill steep enough to make me think to turn the wheels towards the curb ...

We had a 16' pilot with push button ignition and remote start. Worked flawless. Once it was started by the remote the fob had to be in the car for it to switch over. All you had to do was hit the push button while holding the brake pedal once it was running and then it was business as usual. If you did not do the correct sequence it shut off. It's not that freaking hard to do.

This is toyotas BS. When set up that way it can't be stolen and you are not adding more wear to your starter along with proper warm up.
