I feel like going outside and turning my truck on and off continuously.

I'd advice you never to buy any vehicle with the stop/start feature if you really believe starters are that fragile.

I have the push start button and yes, once you open the door the engine shuts off. But as soon as I get in and push the start button again the engine starts right off. There is no 20 second cranking like the other guy experienced on his truck. It has always been that way including the Rav4 that was traded-in for the Taco.

I have a friend who owns a 2016 Nissan Rogue with push button start. And the work around for the engine not to shut off when the door is opened. First, he has to unlock the vehicle with his remote starter unlock button. Then once he is inside the vehicle, close the door BEFORE depressing the brake pedal and he can put the vehicle in gear. That way it won't shut the engine off. Does not work with my Taco or the previous Rav that we traded in though.

Do you have an aftermarket remote starter? What brand? Thanks.

I've never said theyre fragile. Never once. I never said it will break by doing this. Im saying if you cycle a piece of equipment 2 times when it can be one...it will wear down faster. If you deny that.. I can't help you.

The starter may outlast my truck.. who knows. But I know im not adding some aftermarket shit to my 40k truck to have it start remotely, warm it up (it might not even get to normal operating temperature) then i open my door, then i have to restart it.

    As I mentioned above, that's a strawman.

In what use case do you possibly envision someone using a remote start every single time they get in their truck to go somewhere? Typical in the north may be once or twice a day in winter after the truck's sat for hours. In the south it may be once or twice at lunch and in the afternoon if the truck has sat out in the sun.

Not a lot of need for that in New Orleans I imagine. ;)

*shrug* Your choice of course. I just don't see the logic in it. You can get in a cooled down truck and press the start button and go, or you can get in a 140F truck and press the start button and go.

So the engine does not shut off when you open the door after remote starting it, right? Thanks!

Only way I'd buy a remote start is if were OEM and it didn't cut off when I open the door.
Only time I'd use a remote start is in the winter.

Are you using a Compustar 2way remote to start and then unlock the vehicle, yes?

What happens when you use the OEM fob to unlock after you've remote started?

It's not "some aftermarket shit" the OEM factory remote start operates this way on all toyota's with push start. I'm not saying Toyota engineers know it all, they clearly f plenty of things up, but simply put the number of times the starter is engaged does not directly correlate to the failure of the part. There is no evidence for that. It's designed to start the engine god knows how many times, and if you've ever taken apart a "worn out" one, you'd see they go bad for reasons that have nothing to do with usage.

You'll only install a remote-start that doesn't exist, to only use it in winter in New Orleans. I see why I got puzzled.

Which? Winter in New Orleans, or an OEM Tacoma remote start?
