    I know, I just couldn't resist kidding around a bit. ;)

I grew up and spent years in the frozen north before deciding to GTFO and moving south.

I like it down here. Not too cold in the winter. And the salt doesn't eat up my taco!

Link? Why wasn't in an option when I ordered my truck?

Because it doesn't exist as a Tacoma part. Not as best as I've found. My dealer also couldn't come up with one two months ago when I had money in hand.

It seems some may be using either a Tundra or 4Runner part. Having looked at the instructions for the Tundra install, I'd be more comfortable using a known-brand aftermarket model with Tacoma specific instructions in absence of a true factory supported OEM install.

Exactly. If it's not available on the Tacoma.. it won't be covered under warranty.

Do realize that any accessories added now, even if Toyota OEM, will only have a 1 year warranty.

Provided one sticks with a known name brand any issues are much more likely due to a poor installer than due to the unit itself.

It may work on a Tacoma, but if it's not listed for Tacoma we're back to the concerns above.

Did they reference any install instuctions for the Tacoma?

Here are the Camry instructions: http://toyotaparts.sparkstoyota.com/install/PT398-03120inst.pdf

Much less involved than the Tundra, but again I'd like to see a lot more info on how it's all wired up before dropping three bills on something I don't know will work when I can install a Fortin for half the price myself, or pay $275 to have a local shop install whatever one they use (Avital I think).

Then I guess if you want a remote start you will either have to deal with the shutting off of the engine when you open the door....

Moot. Not a self-install part apparently.

The referenced part requires Techstream Notebook to complete registration of the module to the ECU according to the instructions. They state that Techstream Lite won't do the trick.

No, I'm saying if I use remote start on my Ram or Infiniti, just had to get in and push button to go (but not use starter again - the engine didn't die). Whereas in our Toyota Sienna if you use remote start it dies when you open door and you have to restart it. Just like everyone on this thread is complaining about.

And when you get in to drive to you have to push the push to start button or tap the brake?
Or press the brake put truck into drive and go?

How is this not a possibility for Toyota?
This is my predicament, reason for complaining

Does any remote start system turn your seat heaters on below certain temps?

False assumption that it doesn't work, it is considered a safety feature maybe but not inoperable. It is a compustar and is set to run for 25 minutes, if it is interrupted by a door opening than it kill switches it. If it runs it's time down or I stop it by the remote I can just in and it will start right up. I tested it several times by starting it and trying to unlock with both key fobs (compustar and Toyota) and just getting in the truck. It appears to be a safety feature to me..and yes it cranked for 20+/- seconds several times if I just opened the door without stopping it by the FOB. Annnnd it was installed by the dealership and the weather was not a factor as I did the test outside (below 35°) and in the garage.
