Yes, the system where you look at the forecast and turn them on before you leave the truck. :D

I stand by my statement that I'd consider that completely unacceptable behavior. If that's "as designed" by Compustar it's still completely unacceptable in my book to run the starter that long. I also can't imagine Compustar not catching holy hell from their dealers/installers if that behavior is normal.

Engine stops when you open the door and have to restart it? Not my preference, but I can deal with it. Whether it's intentional by Toyota or a matter of the aftermarket not having a secure handoff, whatever.

Installed by a dealership is irrelevant; I've seen some crappy work done at dealers.

yes it cranked for 20+/- seconds several times if I just opened the door without stopping it by the FOB.

What remote start do You have?

Sounds quite annoying. I'm surprised you accept that as normal operation.

None at this point. I'm looking at options and considering models from Fortin or Viper or Compustar. It hasn't been a priority yet, and I'm sort of pondering the Drone or SmartStart add on which would affect my choice of base system.

Thanks to your input I will be sure to ask the vendors about the behavior you're experiencing. I'll do without before putting up with what you're dealing with.

I get it, but what's the concern with the engine starting again? You aren't doing anything different, just the engine is starting...

I submitted a question via Compustar's online support portal and will follow up with whatever I hear back from them.

Yes, in all the research I've done so far, Goochwarmer's experience with his Compustar remote start seems unique. I haven't seen a single other reference to that behavior and I'd think there'd be complaints if it was commonplace.

I have compustar drone system in a 2015 camry xse, 2016 highlander xle, 2014 4runner LE, 2016 Tacoma. never had that issue in anyone of those vehicles.

biggest issue I have is sometimes the android app doesn't show the correct status of the vehicle unless a manual refresh is done, sometimes it takes a 2nd or 3rd refresh to get the correct status.

After testing it several times it's just an adjustment. Would I like to be able to remote start my truck and walk outside jump in and go? Hell's yeah. But since it acts the way it does I simply turn it off via the remote, get in and start it back up. Again, if I interrupt it running it takes a few to start it back up, but if I shut it off before time elapsed than it cranks right over.
    It's a Compustar WSST 2W901R-SS

Original poster called "all third gens with remote starts installed"... I think I fall into that category. Nowhere did they say "I only want to hear from PTS people"

I'm look'n to install one. What's the best brand to go, or are they all more or less equal? I'd like one that uses my OEM key fob. Don't want a separate or replacement fob.

    Thanks.

    This^^

Just bought ours with a Compustar remote start...like everyone else, opening the door kills it. Tried it today at the dealership, and it took 5-6 seconds to shut off. I wonder if you jump in and hit the PTS (with the FOB on you), would it remain running...? Hoping to pick ours up tomorrow night, so we'll find out.

cant since there is a delay between shutoff and how the ecu re-enables everything.

just like if you lock the vehicle you have to wait like 3-5 seconds again before you can unlock it via the door handle on PTS trucks. its mentioned in the manual on the delay.

I wish this stuff just worked like it should. We use the factory remote start on our Ford Escape we own and there isn't anything ridiculous like the car shutting off when door opened. To prevent theft they just make you confirm the FOB is present before letting you shift out of park by pressing the start button.

To be clear the car shutting off isn't a "safety" feature LOL, it means a designer or engineer screwed up. It is an overlooked flaw plain and simple. The logic is simple, someone just screwed up. I expect in newer versions they will sort it out. Just disappointed, I really want to get remote start on our new Tacoma but some of these overlooked items are just silly in the year 2016.

DEI is working hard on a fix for this this weekend when checking with the local shop in town but since Toyota designed it this way it causes a host of other issues....

Untrue - it is NOT a safety issue, it is a security issue. The intent is to shut down a running vehicle that could be getting broken into. By shutting it down, it resets the immobilization. If you don't have a keyfob present, it won't start back up.
Not sure why folks make such a deal of this. It's pretty common sense to me.

Toyota, as well as several other auto manufacturers, use this same setup. Start the vehicle with the remote and when you open the door it kills the engine. When we bought our Tundra we purchased an aftermarket starter for that reason only.

Hated that the Toyota unit it killed the engine, loved the aftermark unit. Not only could you open the door, put the key in/on and be on your way, but you could also stop, put it in park then push the start button on the remote (while the truck is running) then turn the key to the OFF POSITION and remove the key WHILE THE TRUCK KEPT RUNNING.

You could then LOCK the truck with the Key Fob, run back into your house/Post Office/Whatever, come back, unlock the truck, insert the key to On Position, and be on your way. As long as you didn't touch the Brake pedal it would stay running.

    Love that feature!

Maybe I should wait on gett'n one until somebody figures out how to keep it running. Real nuisance
