Hey guys been working some wack ass long days this past week but just means more $$$. Was heading home well to get my morning biscuit after another long 12 but seen BSheriffs truck sitting near his work so I just stopped and popped a few pics hope he don't mind too much. My truck looks tiny compared to his.

How much lift is it? I only ask cuz from what I've found is anything at or below 2" really doesn't need the drops, and at three inches the carrier still isn't really necessary, just need to shim the rear...

It's 3 inch. I talked to a guy from toytec before I bought it and he told me that I should get the carrier bearing drop and not the shims and be fine. Do you think I should get the shims?

Yea I was wondering why you left it there cuz I knew there was no way you'd be at work that early when nobody else is. We still need to catch up and grab a drink or something.

Rolled through Lynchburg today on my way home from VIR and a guy named Derek and I chatted about Tacomas at Foster's on 29. I gave him a card and told him about the group. Hopefully we'll see him pop up on here!

no i think its kinda an either/or situation. the point of either one is to correct the steep angles in the driveline created by the lift so either one should do the trick. and I'm sure it's not more than prob a 1/2" drop on the bearing so its not like you're lowering it below there frame and greatly increasing your risk of bottoming out on it.

so in other words.. the bearing drop should be fine! besides, it's not something very hard to do so if later down the road you decide you wanna change it it'll be pretty easy.

Don't do the diff drop, two possible negative outcomes.

Lowered ground clearance and an undesigned for diff angle with a good possibility of starving the gears of oil.

the ground clearance i get, but should't it correct the angle just as effectively as the shims? i'm doin the geometry in my head and it seems like from that standpoint it would actually do a better job than shims cuz it levels out the driveline overall?

also, saw your pics in the tidewater thread, amazing!

The shims are for the rear axle.

From what I've read the shims and the carrier bearing drop are supposed to correct vibrations at different speeds (correct me if I'm wrong).

Are there more pros than cons not installing the diff drop? I thought if you have a 4x4 your supposed to install it?

my bad keene! miss read and thought you were talking about carrier bearing drop..

i totally agree on not coin the front diff drop. it's marketed to "fix" driveline angles but the problem is that it WILL bring the CV's back closer to stock but does so by increasing the angle on the front drive shaft (between transfer and front diff). The CV's can truly handle a little extra angle but ti's not good on that front shaft so in the end it hurts more than helps

not to mention it lessens ground clearance and means you can't run the stock skid (if you're planning to use that..)

Carrier bearing drop has worked well for me. Not cons in my book on that.

As far as CV angles, that's the nature of the beast and the cost of a lift.

agreed on the second part! so far i'm only running a 2" lift and haven't felt the need to any change in the rear driveline... i'm sure it'll be needed when I got up though!

also, what kinda under body lights are you running? I remember seein em at shoe way back but never looked close enough to get a good idea of what to but for myself
