Any of you guys know of some good shops for wheels in the Hampton Roads area? I'll be saving up to upgrade mine in the next few months and wanted to avoid paying for shipping in addition to seeing them up close.

I got mine online through FN wheels via a group buy on TW. Great customer service. From the pricing over heard from local stores, their markup far out weighs shipping.

    Good luck

Well shit... Need some tire advice...
Went to Virginia Safari Park weekend before last, and TPMS light went off on the way home.
Checked all the tires, and the driver front was 10 lbs. low. Put air in it, drove it home fine, about 3.5 hours.
Two days later, go to drive the truck and the tire is 15 pounds low, air it up again, and I've been airing and driving ever since, I know I'm a bad person.
I can't find anything in the tire to cause the leak, and the valve stem isn't bubbling the soapy water. I have yet to take the wheel/tire all the way off and search for the source with the soapy water spray bottle.
The wear on the tire is uneven. It's been rotated a few times, and my front end is a little out of alignment. The tires are the stock 245 grandtreks and have 43000 miles on them, not to the wear bar yet, but getting there.

All that being said, here's the thing. I transfer to Japan on orders, July~ish of next year, we will be selling my wife's car hopefully sooner than later, and my truck will be our primary transport for her and our soon to be newborn daughter. I don't really want to buy new tires to drive on for 8 months and then have them sit in the storage lot for 3 years.

Should I say screw it and pay the $450 (mounted) for new 245 grandtreks? There's a couple sets of wheels on craigslist for $250-300 with tires that supposedly have "22k miles" or 40% of life left.. When I return I would love to have some 255/85 st maxx's, but I can't justify that for the little time I have left in the US.

    What are you guys' thoughts??

Chances are the 4x4 shops in the area are going to have only the most common ones on the floor. The "rent n roll" shops are going to have really blingy stuff. I'd suggest looking around online to narrow down the ones you like. After you've got it down to a few, either see if they have a dealer close or if someone nearby already has them and will let you take a peek.

I would buy a used 245 and rotate on that full sized spare, then put 285's when you get back

We were there last weekend. Flew in late Friday night, drove back 5AM Sunday. It was colder in VA than here... I'm told it's the high humidity that makes it so bitter cold there.

We figure we have about 18 months left here before we make a final decision. 6 months on this lease, and then we'll more than likely sign another year. Although the democrats rule, and taxes are crazy (gas it still $3.30), my income and working conditions are hard to beat. I have NEVER worked a 8 - 5 without after hours calls. I don't even have work email on my phone.

As far as the snow... it's just a thing. It's fun, we'll see how long it lasts before it turns into a pain... but you know, you just do what you gotta do, and live life regardless. There's always something to bith and complain about, but it really doesn't make a difference.

Damn... I must have missed you, but I don't recognize Audi's.

    ^^^ SMART IDEA!

Congrats on the cushy job. You have to have something to offset the Government leaches. I hope that a clear path opens for you and your family!

Meg asks about you from time to time. You made quite the impression! I'm beginning to wonder what you two talked about!!

Thanks for the input, broke it down to my wife, she didn't want to have to worry about used and old tires when I wasn't going to be around. We took advantage of the buy 2 get 2 at merchants and got some new 245 cooper rtx's.
