I have a 2006 Tacoma with a bit of a problem. My check engine light indicated a cam pos problem. I checked things out and it looks like I have a broken tooth on my reluctor(?)... not sure of the terminology....I’m in way over my head, but I have a pic. Can anybody help me out?575A4713-D6B3-467B-AC05-4F880C1130EB.jpg

In case you do not have it, here is some factory service manual information. I assume you are talking about the section on the right side that's shorter than the one on the left. If it is broken, I'm trying to figure out how that happened?

The timing cover needs to come off to get the bolt off. The oil pan will probably need to come off to find the broken piece. Definately a huge job.

Thanks guys. I have no idea how it happened. I thought it was just a bad sensor.

Common Issue with the older 1GR-FE engines. There are a few videos on YouTube on how to fix this issue. Here is a series of very descriptive videos on replacing the timing chain. If you're going to tear it down that far, I would go ahead and replace all the timing component's.

EDIT: This is a 4Runner, the process should be the same for all 1GR-FE engines.
