got my head back on the rig today to hit a road block. my lobes on e3 and i3 are both touch my bucket shims after already findind tdc both on chain and the cam shaft gears them self.

the engine seemed to be fairly out of alingment on dissassembly as the two mismatched colors on my chain were not on tdc. i hand cranked it to position, but am still dumb founded on what to do now.

are the lobes pointed incorrectly? or are new shims in order (more than likely, as i cannot get any size feeler gauge underneath either e3 or i3). i am pretty stumpted. its been a long day dealing with it, but theres always tomorrow.

    Oh man
Need to get entire engine to TDC
    Bottom End and Top End
Including the T chain, i think there are 6 separate T marks that must all be aligned

As I found out……both top/bottom ends marks must line up

at least your not wrenching on a Subaru 25EJ……there’s 12 freaking T marks that all must be pointed to correctly to be at TDC

Motor looks awfully dry to me,, i'd put some oil on that valve train to roll it over and get it set up.

I have not read the book on this engine. Does it say that TDC is mandatory for measuring some of the valve clearances? I have always pointed the lobes straight up and then measured the clearance.

ye got head machined. brand new head gasket and all the fun things.

alright so the timing was fucked. so im in the process of taking the timing cover off, bought brand new chain set and tensioner because the old tensioner was maxed out so the chain had to have caused most of this problem in the first place.

initially when i started tear down for the head gasket itself when i found tdc on cam shafts the bottom notch mark on the harmonic balancer was nearly an inch and a half off of the 0 mark indicated. it wasnt until i got my cam shafts installed and went to put my zip tied timing chain on that i kept running cirlces in my head about timing.

anyways. im stuck at the moment trying to pop the crank shaft bolt to pull everything off. brand new gaskets seals and front seal are on their way from LCE.
