So recently when trying to get an alignment after a while of working on that the shop called me back and told me that the lower control arms were installed incorrectly because the camber bolts, some of them are pointing down...

Now unless there's something special about the Tacoma... My knowledge about alignments is at the camber bolt can spin 360. Or more so you have a hundred eighty degrees of adjustment but it doesn't matter whether it's up or down because the adjustment only moves the arm in or out.

    Am I correct?

I'm trained in alignments, but I do remember them saying that you have to watch out for vehicles that had unusual designs. I feel like the Tacoma is probably not crazy... It looks normal to me and I'm pretty sure that one of the bolt is rotated up or down makes no difference.

But again I'm asking here just to make sure in case I'm wrong hahaha

I seen a pic here on TW a guy having alignment numbers issue with a new lift and his pic had the front dials upside down, I asked about it and someone side it doesn't matter as long as the align numbers are met?

Well that makes me feel a little better, I was pretty sure that it didn't matter

im starting to have issues with my camber bolts the usual flattened out tabs from an alignment and creaking on swinging a right turn, really don't have the time or money to address it now, bought the truck used only found out about this issue when I had new struts put in and researched it here

Are you talking about the alignment tabs on either side of the camber bolt disc?

Yeah I've seen that look, thankfully I guess because mine is a 2 wheel drive it was never wheeled hard and as such the tabs are still good.

The only true fix that I've seen for that are those heavy duty steel gussets that total chaos manufacturers. At least I think they're the ones that manufacture those, I could be mistaken.

Sorry that you're dealing with that brother I hope you can get it fixed soon

the cams must have froze up and the dealer tech had a hard time getting the camber numbers, from what I hear they will twist the whole rubber bushing not just the align bolt to get the camber in doing that they plow over the tabs. lots of people have the flattened tabs due to this and live with it cause the repair is hard and the expense is high. they just torque those bolts to 100 ft/pds and keep rolling

I can confirm that to achieve alignment, the cams up or down does not matter. As far as if it ok I would guess that there is nothing wrong with doing so. When installing my new lowers and cams I spun them around a bit and they always appeared to be touching the same amount of tab, either up or down

they should be facing up since there is an indicator to help the alignment tech dial it in, but the cams are symmetrical top to bottom meaning the amount of offset they provide when adjusting is the same whether they face up or down.

Well I've had no problems with them up to this point and they offer very fair prices.

Loosen them so they'll clear the tabs, spin them up, tighten and align.

When I had my truck aligned a couple of months ago, I was helping the tech on a Saturday morning. He loosened one of the bolts too much and did the same thing. He spun it past the alignment tabs and had it oriented in the downward position. He thought we had a problem. I suggested he loosen the bolt again and spin it back up. It worked exactly as expected.

Alright so I went back to the tires plus/Firestone to use my free alignment and while they are not the greatest it was close enough that they were able to get everything back into the green! Woot!
