The Car Care Nut is very knowledgeable but when he discussed Taco transmissions he talked mostly about the A/T. Fine, as that is what most people drive, but I was disappointed that he did not discuss the M/T clutch accumulator at all. I believe he did say that the M/T was better suited to the 3.5V6 vs the A/T and it is due to the V6's low power at low rpm.

Love it in the rain. Pickup trucks generally suck in the rain, due to the light rear end. You can be a Boss in the rain in 4wd.

Don't be afraid to shove it in 4low & throw on the Rear Locker every once in awhile too. Same if you have Crawl Control......

IIRC he did mention the accumulator in one of his vids.. said it was basically for newbs.
Edit: I think it was during one of his live shows, it was a question specifically about the accumulator...

People are allowed to ask and to give advice. Not only does not everyone have that kind of time, but even if you did you wouldn't necessarily remember everything from it, or even whether or not something was in there in the first place.

I've also found that many people translate things many different ways, including many incorrect interpretations of wording from the manual by people on this forum.

If you're just going to say "read the manual" or "google it", why are you even here in the first place?

    /Rant

Because the manual doesn’t tell people what the biggest tire they can fit without a lift.. duh

But in reality there is this super cool function called Ctrl+F or Cmd+F that lets you search the manual online using things called keywords.

A lot of questions here are often answered by people also googling the answer.

People are just lazy. The time spent creating forum noise through a thread could have been used to look up the answer themselves.

This forum in particular is a compendium of information, there really is no question you can ask that likely hasn’t already been answered a dozen times over.

But quite honestly, that's all bullshit. Ctrl+F is only good if you know the keyword you're looking for and then you have to sort through all of the different results. The TW search function is pretty terrible, to be honest. And Google often has more false information to sort through or "noise" than this forum. Plus, no one wants to read through 2467 pages of forum information when they just want to ask a simple question or share a piece of advice.

Just remember: what may be common knowledge to you may be completely foreign to someone else. We all start somewhere.

Ya maybe it depends on your search skills. But I think it’s more driven by motivation. This is my first Tacoma and the first I’ve modified and I’ve never needed to post a question about anything. That’s not because I’m awesome, that’s because I read about everything here on this forum and using the search function.

I edited my last post. But I do agree search skills can make a difference. This is also my first Tacoma but I'm a car guy in general and have been a member of several forums. I just like helping people where I can and it gets disheartening to see others in a spot I've been only to have people jump down their throats about it.

Read the manual if you want, ask a question if you want. Alls fair on TW, you don’t have to answer a question.
Don’t disagree that the manual is a good place to start if you have a question, that’s when I use it to see if it’s answered there. Unless I’m in a hurry lol… jk. ;)

That AT video was laced with enough bad info, I didn't even finish watching. I don't think you're missing much.

And some just like the discourse of a forum and a new thread.

I'd rather ask a knowledgeable friend than read a manual cover to cover. I like the conversation and insight.

It's not just "laziness." That's just what some holier than thou nameless internet user uses to try and feel superior because they read how to fill their washer fluid and to not get your arm stuck in the power window. Big deal. You read a book. Use that knowledge to give advice instead of posturing about how much better you are.

I agree with both of these sentiments. You can only take so many "how big of tires can I put on" threads. However it is pretty easy to scroll past those. I too like the general conversation as well. Plus, with many problems you can often find a thread on it from 2009. However what are the odds that member still frequents here? It's nice to be able to talk to people and make general conversation. I mean the right rooftop tent for you may be the same as the right one for me, but for different reasons not covered in my thread.

Regarding reading the manual sometimes it’s very helpful, other times essentially worthless as far as understanding how something works. Case in point, 3 pages on your windshield wipers, yet just 1 page on the ECT Power button with the page mostly showing you where the button is, lol. The description for ECT PWR says “Use when high levels of response and feeling are desirable…”
But what does it DO??? o_O
Googling and reading some Toyota dealer websites is equally amusing “gives a sudden boost of power” (nope). I did find a good technical resource online and of course many TW members understand what it does and give good explanations, so that’s the value of TW.

P.S. I know what ECT PWR button does no need to explain here just making a point about the manual. I may color in the drawings of the button in the manual to help me find it though.

For reference, what the ECT PWR button really does is in the attachment. It’s an older document for Toyotas but the function appears to match what I see in my Tacoma.
