I just bought a Nikon D90 last week. It's a VERY nice camera and it takes great pictures and it will also shoot video.

DSLR cameras have an auto setting that is "point and shoot". Most of them come with a zoom lens. So you just zoom in or out and frame your shot and then push the button. It will automatically focus for you, determine the aperture size and the shutter speed. However, if you prefer, you can choose manual mode and have complete control over your shot.

I bought it from my local camera shop at it was actually a little bit cheaper than it would have been from the big box electronic store down the street. And, I helped my local economy a little bit ;). The total price was $1600 with a Sigma 18-200mm zoom lens. You can pick it up bundled with a regular zoom lens for around $1000 in the USA.

If your planning on taking it with you on your motorcycle trips, you might want to purchase something a little smaller like the the Nikon D3000. It's still a great camera and it would cost you about 1/2 the price of the D90.

    Cheers.

I have read great reviews for that lens. Eventually you might want to pick up an 18-55 VR for the wide angle shots.

Here are a couple picks I took yesterday. Nothing special ... I was waiting for my son and the construction site looked interesting.

    Cheers.
