I disagree. I’m always in a group so as a whole we generate a decent bit of trash and tend to share each other’s trasharoos since it’s convenient. Or pick up trash on the trail. Or for example, last trip I made a big pot of chili at camp. Had like 10 cans to dispose of. I do like the idea of a milk crate.

I think ultimately I’ll just get a trasharoo on the tailgate since it serves many purposes. Adds a lot of storage for non trash items too, just a versatile bag. If I hate it I’ll give it to a friend.

    Stuff. Also things.
This is a big reason why I like my trasharoo. Yeah, it’s EAF and all of that, but its very utilitarian. It has more than enough room for our trash plus a good amount of the inevitable garbage and BS that other people seem content to leave on the trail or at the campsite, which always ends up being a way bigger portion of the trash that I pack out.

I also use the zippered cover flap for holding our kindling and fire making stuff.

If you would have shared that chilli, then you would have had more bowls to throw away.

But what about all those extra bowls that went unused? That’s just selfish Randy.

Could you have emptied the ten cans into a reusable container prior to leaving home? Maybe even put it into the same container you cooked it in. In order to reduce camp waste it does take pre planning and a little ingenuity.

Maybe, I don’t know if all the stuff marinating together would have an adverse affect on taste. Plus then it may need to be kept cold. I understand where you’re coming from and agree with the idea. Something I try and do while backpacking.

The problem with chili isn't the bowls and napkins, but the TP you end up using later. o_O

As for the reuseable containers, I guess it all depends on what it is. I don’t typically use a lot of canned goods anyway, but I do tend to put most of the food into ziplocks etc. as they take up less space when finished with them than the tupperware type boxes. If you pack them properly and double bag them, they don’t leak. Dry goods in cardboard you can burn, that type of stuff.

I’m also extremely lazy and don’t tend to make a big production out of meals. We joke that when we’re out car/rv camping with my friends who are foodies, we eat better than when my wife and I are at home, lol.

Yeah, the pre-packing of meals for me is due to laziness, but a nice side effect is less waste.

Unless I’m in my rv trailer, I tend to be a minimalist, something I guess I still carry over from my days of drilling holes in my toothbrushes backpacking. Less is more.

Another vote for the pop-up trash can. We used one on our group camping trip and it worked well. Just line it with a trash bag and fill it up. Stores flat. More room for beer

idk, but if you can weld, I feel like theres something that you can hang off of those bumper hoops. couldn't wheel with it on, but it could hold a bag/bucket while youre cooking. one of those screw top 5 gal buckets and an igloo watercooler holder modded up would be perfect. and with the screw top bucket you can just throw it in the bed and let her roll around.

If you think you are a minimalist check out "Darwin on the trail" on YouTube. A thru hiker with a base weight of ten pounds. That being weight of all gear in his pack and including his pack, not including food.

We use a dollar store folding hamper with kitchen trash bag inside. About a 3.00 trash can.

Haha, yeah, that’s insane. There’s always someone out there to out do you.

And every time I think we carry a bunch of crap, we go camping with pur foodie friends (both in rv trailers). Holy hell they pack a lot of crap!

when i do go camping and such i carry my old Alice rucksack with the rigid frame and a couple trash bags, crush cans and fold boxes into small cardboard squares..folds flat until i need it and rides in the back all the way home, big plus spray it out when i get home and let it dry..anyone who has used an Alice pack or Molle knows you can pack 5-10 days worth of crap in them...also the milk crate works great too

I used to run my trasharoo off my tailgate then moved it once I got the rear bumper with swing out. Haha such an old photo

    IMG_20150804_081309_1_d769f4c776ac7b0d0369bce3dfa9d16ae4483ef2.jpg

Now a days i only use my trasharoo for cans. And prefer to stuff any actual garbage into a sealed 5gal bucket. I also have one marked danger poo inside
