Usually I'm pretty simple and use small grocery bags and store them in my truck or in a separate cooler if I have one on me. I dunno what they're called but next stop is probably a bear proof bag (they have a specific name...) or a bear canister with a heavy weight garbage bag inside to contain any liquid etc. Lots of big animals like to cause a ruckus up here in BC.

My go-to was the thick contractor trash bags in the pop-up can. They handle pointy things and weight MUCH better than any other trashbag.

The pop-up can is also good because you can zip it closed for transport and you can still collapse it to save room if its under 1/3 full. The material is also water tight to catch spills.

I like to hang a small bag off the Yakima rack that's mounted to the camper top. It works pretty well and keeps it away from the ground.

On a related note, the last campsite I visited had been absolutely trashed by the previous campers. There were empty propane bottles, tons of cigarettes, old uneaten food, and a cardboard box that was soaked with beer and spoiled milk.

I cleaned it all up out of respect for the park and campground, but it was pretty disgusting and I had to work up the will power to do it. Those people must have been complete dirtbags, and I hope karma exists after seeing what they had left behind.

Usually if there's a camp host, they're pretty on top of that. Assuming those asshats didn't poach the spot and camp for free/illegally, there'd be a record of who was there last.

I wouldn't hesitate to "tattle" and get them black listed from that park.

I remember a while back I participated in a cleanup day at the local OHV/NF area. Someone had left a bunch of trashbags full of all their garbage from the previous party weekend. I'm giving them the benefit of doubt that they at least put most of it in trash bags, but left the trash bags for, I assume, one of their moms to come in and clean up after them. But it was bad, because you know... bears...

I've seen meth ravaged homeless camps cleaner than this.

Since making this thread, I've tried a trasharoo on the tailgate. For the one or two night trips, it's more hassle than it's worth.

What I do now is just grab a few grocery bags and use those as trashbags on my trip. Much easier and a more simplistic approach.

Giving this a shot for a reusable trash bag. Will be great for cans and bottles and non gross trash in general. $30 shipped. Comes with bungee cords so I’ll just secure it to my bumper at camp.
