I have an ARE MX, which is a high rise, with the vented windoors. It was $2700. So yeah, I'd say $900 is a good deal.

That's a steal. I got a new 100xr with only a few options - keyless, front slider, and carpet headliner - and paid $2200 with install and tax.

I may be in the minority but I think this generation taco looks better with a shell, and for me with skis bikes all that crap there's no way I could live without it. You just toss it in and lock it up. If I need to move something huge, I just strap it to the crossbars. To me there's no downside of having a shell.

That shell looks like it's for a 2nd Gen. It will not "fit" your 3rd Gen, whose bedrails are about 2-3 inches higher than 2nd gen. It will not have a smooth roofline with the cab.

By the time you sit around waiting to see everyone's replies on this thread to come in that shell will be gone.

    Just go get it

The one I'm buying? It's for a 2016 model. Had the guy give me the serial number and checked it with leer. It also came off his 16 taco

As a first time camper shell owner, here's what I learned:

    - Make sure you install correctly. this means having sufficient space between any part of the shell and your bed rails. This space is created by using a good foam insert btw the shell and the rails. failure to have adequate cushioning will result in your shell chipping away at your paint (obviously, not good). Be super anal about this! I had mine professionally installed and still resulted in rubbing. I bought after market foam and redid myself.

    - If possible, try to get a shell that auto locks with your FOB. It's kind of a PITA to use a key each time.

    - If you have pets, windows are essential.

    - interior LED lights are super convenient

    - It's nearly impossible to be completely 100% waterproof in your bed, so manage your expectations.

if you could do it all again would you rather have made your own LED light strips to put in the cap or do you think the factory one is worth it?

It depends if you need one or not. If you don't, I personally wouldn't get one. They scream 'old person' to me. lol
